Udhyami 101 is a subsidiary of Udhyami Seed Camp – Tech Edition, which was held from The main theme that revolved yesterday’s program was ‘Basics of Starting a Business,” .
The event kicked off on 12 December, 2017 with a speech from the Managing Director and Co-Founder of STARTUPSNepal, Mr. Kavi Raj Joshi. He quickly filled the audience in on the fundamentals of the Udhyami program franchise and the theme of the year, technology, and its relevance and importance in upcoming startups and existing businesses. He thanked everyone present for being an active presence in helping the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Nepal soar greater heights and excel further. More than 142 attendees witnessed the program.
The event was followed by Mr. Daniel Shrestha, Head of Business Development, Marketing and Digital Finance Services of IME, pitching in a few words about the importance of ICT and technology in the remittance and finance sector and how much their company has grown in the past 16 years, with their current standing at bringing in remittance amounting to $6 billion annually, and continues to scale greater heights with the help of technology. He commented on the vital role technology plays in helping startups grow and keeping themselves one step ahead of competition.
During the panel discussion, Mr. BibhusanBista, CEO of YoungInnovations acted as the moderator and raised some questions to business veterans, Mr. Shailendra Raj Giri, Founder & CMD of MeroJob.com, Mr Sameer Mani Dixit, Co-founder and Vice Chairman of Centre for Molecular Dynamics Nepal & last but not least Mr. Ajay Shrestha, CMD of iCapital, that were pivotal in the relevance of the basics of business. Some example of questions, “What does it take to become an entrepreneur and can everyone be an entrepreneur?”
They had all the panelists answered the questions in their own words. Mr Dixit answered, “It takes vision, grit and the drive, if those characteristics aren’t there then the capacity isn’t strong enough to start a business.”
Mr. Giri however said, “Not everyone has the capacity to become an entrepreneur, it takes a whole lot of effort, commitment, time and it definitely isn’t for everyone.”
The panel discussion was continued with a set of questions asked from the audience, having the panelists answer them aptly and briefly.
Ms. Pratibha Vaidya, Manager of Nepal Telecom then took on the stage to talk about how Nepal Telecom, a Telecommunications company has come a long way, relying heavily on ICT, and what it has to offer to budding startups. Ms. Vaidya commented on how in this fast paced entrepreneurial eco-system, without understanding the ropes and know-hows of technology, a startup would fail to excel as per wish.
The stage was then made way for the participants of this year’s Udhyami Seed Camp – Tech Edition. Through their presentations, we were able to see their growth and progress from when they pitched their ideas and where they are with their product now.
Then, They had Mr. Abhay Pareek give us a presentation and speech on the topic, “Enabling Ecosystem for Tech Entreprenuers.” Mr. Pareek touched on points like how Nepal, should technology be equipped accordingly and efficiently, has so much to offer and will do well in the upcoming years if the progress is consistent.
The event was then concluded. Through Udhyami101 we aim to create an ideal platform for young and innovative minds to come together and create a collaborative and prosperous entrepreneurial society. By bringing together key stakeholders such as sector experts, startup founders, next generation entrepreneurs, investors and other industry supporters, we aim to create a vibrant and collaborative platform for young entrepreneurial enthusiasts and aspiring entrepreneurs to start and grow their business in Nepal. Through Udhyami101, STARTUPS Nepal hopes to cultivate a collaborative startup and entrepreneurial community and cater its unique needs accordingly.
