They also discussed on what technologies should be adopted to slow down such problems from Nepal. This conference was conducted by ITSERT-NP (INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SECURITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM NEPAL) on Time-to-Time basis to make them aware about whether they are facing any ISP related problems on the internet or not, to both client or customer and service provider. Mr. Rajan Raj Pant is the president of ITSERT-NP, who has given his interactive and informative speech on ISP security.  He discussed with all participants about the challenging issues in ISP and what practical measures to be taken to solve these problems shortly from Nepal. He has given his magnificent speech on emerging D-DOS attack, DNS, flaws and cost in the internet, ISP attack, and threats.

ISP (Internet service provider) is a company or organization that provides individuals and other companies’ access to the Internet and other related services such as Web site building and virtual hosting. Internet service providers may be organized in various forms, such as commercial, community-owned, non-profit, privately owned as well. Internet services typically provided by ISPs contain Internet access, Internet transit, domain name registration, web hosting, Usenet service, and collocation.

He said that the problem today is on the core router. Other participants also agreed on that concern. But most of the user’s are in blind to those things. So he focused on how to make people aware of these things throughout his speech. The users are one, who has sole ownership to secure their internet. Unless their participation, nothing could happen. He further added that Mobile Computing would threaten ISP. So a lot of securities should be adopted from the government as well as private sectors to protect from third parties.

He has also asked lots of questions for many participants. They gave their answers according to their knowledge and experiences. He asked, “whether you are satisfied with your jobs” to one of them, internet service provider technician. He told me that we are probably satisfied with our work as most of the users are known about the technologies what we are using or offering. There is also a lack of effective and qualitative designer, developer and programmer with us to secure our ISP.

Due to these, ethical hacking, cyber hacking, and wifi hacking problems were created. He further added that companies’ technicians, professionals along with IT students should be aware of these things regularly. Then only, qualitative solutions would come out as what we have expected he mentioned. Another participant told that security service offering is a challenging task, in reality, so it should be managed with adequate planning. He elaborates that the network level security would be possible than content level security in Nepal.

Mr. Rajan Raj Pant again asked one of the ladies from Classic Tech “Are you receiving a spam message from customers and how would you handle them.” She told that we would be receiving customer spam message and we provide answers according to our general policy. Other internet service providers also agreed on her response. They typically focused on vendor-specific product to use.

They can also provide antivirus security if the customer wished to get that for free (as our services) with internet installation setup. They are also planning to work on simulating hacking or ethical hacking to secure from third parties. They mentioned that the best way to solve these problems is by working on a web server and providing DNS security. They are also planning to use TIE (Thread Intelligence exchange), DLX, internet security and firewall to slow down these emerging problems.

As a conclusion, they decided to bring these issues as a government concern and applied very soon to solve the challenges facing on ISP. They, all agreed on public participation are needed to solve these problems by updating the latest technologies among clients or users.
