Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has established a free Wi-Fi zone in 6 different places of Kathmandu.

In collaboration with the internet service provider, Worldlink KMC has installed free Wi-Fi service to 6 different places of the capital.  All the necessary equipment and internet connection are managed by Worldlink.

KMC Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya inaugurated the free Wi-Fi service on Sunday (September 2).

While launching the free Wi-Fi, Mayor Shakya said, all of the work regarding smart city will be completed as soon as possible. As the jobs for the lively city are rapidly taking place very soon we will add free Wi-Fi service in different other areas, said Mayor Shakya.

KMC is planning to install free Wi-Fi service to 60 different places of capital targeting the spaces nearby to Government offices, Hospitals, Airports, bus parks where the presence of people is high in number.

Most of the religious and tourist places are focused on free Wi-Fi zone. The areas to get free Wi-Fi service are:

  • Hanumandhoka
  • Pashupati Nath
  • Shoyambhu Nath
  • Boudha Nath
  • Balaju Baishdhara Park
  • Sankha Park

Way to use Free Wi-Fi service:

  • After reaching to free Wi-Fi zone turn on the Wi-Fi option, you will get a notification
  • Press on the information, there will appear a page where you need to enter your name and mobile number then a system will send you a code. By joining the law, you can enjoy the free Wi-Fi service.
  • One can use the Wi-Fi just for 30 minutes a day. After 30 minutes the service will be disconnected. But, the service can be again connected in another free Wi-Fi zone. To control the flow of users, the access has been provided just for half an hour.
