The electric vehicle (EV) market in Nepal is constantly evolving. In a significant development, the Kia EV5 Nepal arrival has officially taken place.
Kia EV5 Nepal Import
Continental Associates Pvt. Ltd., the authorized distributor for Kia Motors in Nepal, successfully imported two units of the highly anticipated EV5 in November.
However, the import value has generated substantial buzz, as it appears to double the price of current compact SUVs in the market.
This unexpected import price tag has electric SUV enthusiasts and industry observers alike truly stunned, prompting questions about the vehicle’s final Kia EV5 price in Nepal and its competitive position before its 2026 launch.
Delayed Arrival, High Expectations
The Kia EV5 was initially expected to debut during the NADA Mobility Expo. Despite the delay, its official entry into Nepal has kept the momentum going. This EV5 is a Chinese-manufactured compact electric SUV from Kia.
Continental Trading has already indicated that the sales process for the new EV5 will only commence from 2026. A company source confirmed the arrival of only two units and mentioned, “Many decisions, including the final price, remain to be finalized. After everything is set, we can expect to start sales from the first quarter of 2026.”
The Stunning Import Price Revealed
While Kia Motors priced the EV5 with a starting price of $20,000 in China, the vehicle’s landed cost in Nepal is significantly higher. Data from the Customs Department shows the EV5 was imported at a value of $41,933 per unit.
This figure is more than double the import price of currently available compact SUVs, leading to the collective surprise in the automotive sector.
The high import value, coupled with Nepal’s progressive tax structure on high-powered EVs, suggests the final retail price for the Kia EV5 could easily exceed NPR 1 Crore.
This potentially high price point might be the reason the company is delaying any public sales strategy announcement until the 2026 launch.
Design and Dimensions: Inspired by the Flagship
The EV5 uses the Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform. Its design language clearly draws inspiration from Kia’s largest model, the flagship EV9.
The exterior is highlighted by a closed-off grille, hidden door handles, the signature Star Map lighting system, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle boasts J-shaped LED taillights and has a body cladding finished in glossy black.
Powerful Performance and Technology
The imported Kia EV5 model packs a considerable punch. It is equipped with a 160 kW motor. This powerful specification is one of the factors contributing to the higher tax bracket and, consequently, the hefty final price tag.
The interior showcases a strong focus on digital technology and driver comfort. The dashboard features a large panoramic display, which seamlessly integrates two 12.3 inch screens. A separate 5 inch digital climate control system is included, offering both touch functionality and physical buttons for ease of use.
Awaiting the Official Kia EV5 Price in Nepal
While the Kia EV5 Nepal presence is now confirmed, the market awaits the official price and booking details. The high import price has set a high expectation for the final retail cost.
For the EV5 to compete effectively, especially against other compact electric SUV models, the pricing strategy will need careful consideration before its highly anticipated 2026 launch. Consumers are keenly watching to see how Continental Trading positions this impressive, yet surprisingly expensive, EV.
