Ncell to Launch ‘Gen Z Pack’ Amidst Govt Support; Expands Services to Everest Region

In a significant show of government backing, the Minister for Communications, Information and Technology, Jagdish Kharel, visited the Ncell Integrated Data Centre (IDC) in Nakkhu, Lalitpur, on Monday.

Ncell, a cornerstone of the Nepalese telecommunications sector, sustained an estimated loss of Rs. 650 million due to vandalism, looting, and arson at its facilities, including the head office, Ncell ICON, during the September movement.

Government Assures FDI Protection Following Unrest
During the meeting, Ncell Chairman Satish Lal Acharya and CEO Michael Foley provided Minister Kharel with a detailed briefing on Ncell’s services, its contribution to the national economy, and the severe impact of the protests.
The protests, which were initially triggered by a social media ban and widespread anger over corruption, severely affected Ncell’s infrastructure, leading to the substantial financial setback.
Minister Kharel expressed his disappointment over the damage, stating, “I am saddened by the loss of around Rs. 650 million caused to Ncell during the Gen Z movement.
The government is committed to creating an environment conducive for investment in Nepal, especially foreign direct investment (FDI). We should promote investment. The government is with Ncell.”
Ncell Pioneers Youth Connectivity with ‘Gen Z Pack’
Responding to both the Ministry’s suggestion and the urgent need to address the communication requirements of young Nepalese citizens the very demographic at the heart of the recent movement Ncell CEO Foley announced a key initiative.
“In line with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology’s suggestion, and our commitment to making services easily accessible to youth, we are soon launching a Gen Z Pack for students to address their communication service requirements,” said Foley.
This move is a strategic step to re-engage with the youth market and demonstrates a proactive response to the evolving digital needs of the country.
