5th January 2026, Kathmandu
In the vibrant landscape of Nepalese culture and adventure, few names resonate as strongly as R.P. Pant. Known to many as a veteran actor and to others as a visionary leader in the tourism industry, Pant’s journey is a masterclass in professional versatility.
Former President of TAAN R.P. Pant
As the Former President of TAAN (Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal), he has bridged the gap between the creative arts and the rugged trails of the Himalayas.
The Artistic Foundations: From 430 Rupees to National Fame
R.P. Pant’s journey began not in the mountains, but on the stage and screen. His entry into the world of acting was serendipitous—a chance encounter during a Hindi film shoot at Tribhuvan University.
“I saw a crowd and went to check it out. They needed someone with a good motorcycle for a scene. I participated and was paid 430 rupees. That moment changed my trajectory,” Pant recalls.
Driven by this early success and mentored by legends like the late Prachanda Malla and Santosh Pant, he refined his craft at the Nepal Academy. His breakthrough came with the iconic satire show Hijo Aajaka Kura, which turned him into a household name across Nepal. With nearly three dozen films, including the memorable Agni Jwala, Pant established himself as a “character actor” who values artistic integrity over superficial fame.
Leading the Peaks: R.P. Pant as the Former President of TAAN
While his face was famous on television, R.P. Pant was simultaneously building a formidable reputation in the business world. His most significant contribution to the nation came through his leadership in the tourism sector.
As the Former President of TAAN, Pant was instrumental in:
Policy Advocacy: Navigating the complex regulatory environment to benefit trekking agencies and local guides.
Global Promotion: Representing Nepalese adventure tourism on international platforms to attract trekkers to the Himalayas.
Safety Standards: Enhancing the quality of services and safety protocols within the trekking industry.
His expertise is not limited to TAAN. Pant also served nearly a decade in leadership at the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) Nepal, where he focused on high-altitude medical safety and rescue operations. Today, he is widely regarded as a Senior Tourism Expert, a title earned through years of dedicated service to Nepal’s most vital economic sector.
The Post-COVID Comeback: “Time” for a New Chapter
After a brief hiatus following the global pandemic, R.P. Pant is returning to his first love: the arts. He recently starred in the music video “Samayama Samaya Hu,” portraying a character that represents the essence of time.
Despite his success as the Former President of TAAN, Pant remains grounded in his belief that discipline is the key to longevity in any field. “Whether it is artistry or business, success is impossible without value and commitment,” he asserts.
Future Aspirations: Social Responsibility
Looking ahead, R.P. Pant isn’t just looking at the next film role or business venture. He has expressed a deep desire to pivot toward social service, specifically focusing on children’s rights.
His journey from a young man on a motorcycle to a national leader in tourism proves that with discipline and a positive mindset, one can navigate any challenge.
