Insurance Awareness Karnali Province Programs Successfully Conducted in Salyan
11th January 2026, Kathmandu
Insurance Awareness Karnali Province initiatives have been significantly strengthened as the Nepal Insurance Authority Karnali Province Office successfully conducted a series of insurance-related programs in the Salyan district. These programs were held on Poush 24 and 25, 2082 (January 8–9, 2026), with a strong focus on disaster financial management, agricultural and livestock insurance orientation, and insurance awareness among students.
Insurance Awareness Karnali Province
The initiatives aimed to expand public understanding of insurance, promote risk management practices, and encourage inclusive insurance coverage across different sectors of society. The programs brought together government officials, technical experts, farmers, students, and local stakeholders, reflecting a coordinated effort to enhance insurance penetration in Karnali Province, which currently accounts for only 0.93 percent of the national non-life insurance trade.
Disaster Financial Management Interaction Program
As part of the Insurance Awareness Karnali Province campaign, a disaster financial management discussion and interaction program was organized on Poush 25 at the District Coordination Committee Hall in Salyan Khalanga. The program was conducted in coordination with the District Administration Office, Salyan.
Approximately 50 participants attended the event, including mayors and deputy mayors of local governments, chief administrative officers, members of the District Coordination Committee, representatives of security agencies, heads of district-level offices, local representatives of insurance companies, and journalists.
During the program, Nilprasad Lamichhane, Chief of the Nepal Insurance Authority Karnali Province Office, delivered a detailed presentation. The presentation covered Nepal’s risk landscape, disaster statistics, phases of disaster management, roles of local governments and stakeholders, and the importance of insurance in post-disaster reconstruction.
The Chief Guest, Belaram Rawat, Chairperson of the District Coordination Committee, Salyan, emphasized that insurance is a vital tool for disaster management in a risk-prone country like Nepal. He stated that the program helped clarify the practical importance of insurance in mitigating disaster-related losses. Chief District Officer Mahendra Kumar Sapkota, who chaired the program, highlighted that insurance is a simple, cost-effective, and efficient mechanism for disaster management.
Agriculture, Livestock, and Medicinal Herbs Insurance Program
Another major component of Insurance Awareness Karnali Province was the agriculture, livestock, and medicinal herbs insurance interaction program held on Poush 24 at the Agriculture Development Office Hall in Sharada, Salyan.
The program saw participation from around 50 agricultural and livestock technicians, animal service officers working in local governments, and staff from agriculture development centers. Presentations covered:
Fundamental insurance concepts and existing policies in Nepal.
The 80 percent government subsidy on insurance premiums for farmers.
Prospects for agricultural insurance expansion in Salyan, specifically for orange and livestock farmers.
Information on the ALIS software for digital management of insurance data.
Special guest Mahesh Acharya, Chief of the Agriculture Development Office, Salyan, expressed concern over the near-zero status of agricultural insurance in the district. He noted that recent declines in orange production highlight the urgency of coverage, as insured farmers could have received financial compensation for their losses.
Insurance Awareness Program for Students
Insurance Awareness Karnali Province initiatives also extended to the education sector. An insurance awareness program for students was conducted on Poush 24 at Tribhuvan Jan Secondary School, Sharada-02, Salyan.
The program included around 70 students from grades 11 and 12, along with teachers. Assistant Director Bipana Panthi presented on the introduction to insurance, its types, importance, and sample premium rates. Students and teachers actively engaged in discussions, raising queries about:
Home and property insurance.
Accident and health insurance.
The insurance enrollment process for families.
Conclusion
Insurance Awareness Karnali Province programs conducted in Salyan have made a meaningful contribution to enhancing public understanding of insurance and expanding its reach in disaster risk management, agriculture, and education sectors. The Nepal Insurance Authority Karnali Province Office believes that such initiatives play a crucial role in reducing disaster-induced poverty and promoting inclusive insurance access.
By continuing insurance awareness programs with strong stakeholder participation, the Authority aims to strengthen financial resilience and foster a culture of risk protection across Karnali Province.
