MBUST First Commencement Ceremony: A Landmark for Nepalese Education

Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology (MBUST) is set to mark a historic milestone with its first Commencement Ceremony on February 8, 2026, honoring the achievements of its pioneering graduating class.
MBUST First Commencement Ceremony
Mr. Padma Jyoti, Chairperson of Board of Trustees of MBUST, a distinguished leader in Nepal’s business and industrial sectors, will chair the Commencement. A former member of the Constituent Assembly, Mr. Jyoti has served as President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Nepal Business Initiative, and has led multiple manufacturing and hydropower enterprises as the Chief Executive Officer.
The Commencement Address at the Ceremony will be delivered by the Chief Guest Dr. Jamil Salmi, a globally recognized expert in tertiary education. With decades of experience in shaping higher education policies worldwide, Dr. Salmi has served as the Higher Education Coordinator at the World Bank, Emeritus Professor of Higher Education Policy at Diego Portales University, Chile, and Research Fellow at the Center for International Higher Education, Boston College.
The congratulatory remarks will be delivered by two world-renowned academics: Professor Suzanne Fortier, Trustee of MBUST, former Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University and former President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, known for her transformative contributions to research and innovation; and Academician Professor Seeram Ramakrishna, Trustee and Honorary Chair of MBUST, Xinghua Distinguished Chair Professor and Director of the iWearables Center at Tsinghua University, recognized as one of the World’s Most Influential Minds by Thomson Reuters.

The Ceremony will be addressed by President Dr. Rajendra Dhoj Joshi. He will celebrate the dedication, hard work, and accomplishments of first graduates and highlight the achievements and challenges of the University in the journey for attaining the mission of building prosperous and just Nepal and vision of world-class university.

Media representatives and guests are warmly invited to join the celebration and witness the conferring of degrees on first graduates.
Two side events are planned on the occasion of the Commencement. The first is the Round Table on “Fueling Economic Growth by University Research” on February 7, 2026 organized jointly with the Confederation of Nepalese Industries and the second “Panel Discussion on World-Class University in Nepal” on February 9, 2026.
