20th February 2026, Kathmandu
The global technology sector reached a historic milestone on February 18, 2026, with the official launch of the World AI Alliance (WAA) in New York City.
Nepal-Born Technology Visionary Appointed
At the forefront of this groundbreaking nonprofit is Ujjwal Roy, a Nepal-born technology visionary and trusted government advisor, who has been named the organization’s Founding President.
Established on the 70th Anniversary of Artificial Intelligence, the Alliance traces its intellectual heritage back to the 1955 Dartmouth Summer Research Project, the birthplace of the term “AI”.
A Proud Milestone for Nepalese Global Leadership
The appointment of Ujjwal Roy is being celebrated as a defining moment of pride for Nepal and the global Nepalese community. Chiranjibi Adhikari, Tech Entrepreneur and Senior Vice President of the CAN Federation (the apex body of ICT organizations in Nepal), praised Roy’s achievement as a monumental milestone for every Nepalese citizen. As a leader in the ICT sector, Adhikari noted that Roy’s role at the helm of a New York-based global entity showcases the world-class caliber of Nepal’s technology leaders.
Ujjwal Roy, a Nepal-born technology visionary, has a long history of shaping digital landscapes:
National AI Policy: He played a pivotal role in developing Nepal’s first National AI Policy under the administrations of Prime Ministers Prachanda and K.P. Sharma Oli.
30-Year IT Roadmap: Roy was a central architect of Nepal’s long-term strategic vision for national digital transformation.
International Governance: He is an active member of the IEEE Ethical AI Committee in the United States, contributing to global standards for responsible technology.
The Mission: Ethical and Inclusive AI for All
Under Roy’s leadership, the World AI Alliance aims to ensure that AI is developed with transparency, fairness, and accountability. The organization is built upon four core pillars:
Ethical AI Governance: Partnering with governments globally to empower the Global South and developing nations.
Global AI Education: Discovering the next generation of leaders through international hackathons, bootcamps, and fellowships.
Open-Access Tools: Creating AI infrastructure to solve real-world challenges in healthcare, education, and climate resilience.
Global Collaboration: Fostering cross-sector partnerships for a unified and inclusive approach to AI development.
A Movement Led by Global Experts
Based in New York City, the Alliance brings together elite professionals in AI science, cybersecurity, and public policy. Joining Ujjwal Roy in leadership is Suyog Parajuli, General Secretary, and a young Nepalese cybersecurity specialist representing the next generation of tech leaders.
“The World AI Alliance is not just an organization. It is a movement,” stated Founding President Ujjwal Roy. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure AI is built with transparency, fairness, and accountability for every human being on Earth”.
With its headquarters in the USA, the WAA is set to become a primary force in shaping AI as a “force for good” on a global scale.
