World Kidney Day Nepal 2026: Grande International Hospital Marks 172 Successful Transplants in a Decade

On the occasion of the 20th World Kidney Day, Grande International Hospital (a leading multi-specialty hospital in Nepal) organized a special program on Thursday, highlighting its significant contributions to nephrology over the last ten years.

During the event, the hospital management shared that it has successfully performed 172 kidney transplants within a decade. While successful kidney transplantation began in Nepal in 2008, Grande International Hospital launched its specialized transplant services in July 2016.
Key Highlights from the Event
Dr. Binod Bijukchhe (Medical Director): Emphasized that Grande has prioritized kidney treatment to ensure Nepalese patients do not have to seek organ transplants abroad. He noted that the initiative began ten years ago with the vision of providing world-class care locally.
Prof. Dr. Divya Singh Shah (Senior Nephrologist): Warned that kidney disease can affect individuals of any age group. She urged the public to undergo regular screenings, specifically monitoring blood pressure and sugar levels, while strictly advising against smoking, alcohol, and tobacco consumption.

Prof. Dr. Prem Raj Gyawali (Senior Urologist & Transplant Surgeon): Highlighted the economic burden of kidney disease, stating that the Government of Nepal spends approximately NPR 1.27 billion annually on dialysis treatments alone.
Specialist Insights: Nephrologists Dr. Bishnu Pahari and Dr. Satish Chandra Yadav stressed the urgent need for widespread public awareness to prevent the onset of kidney ailments.

The program featured moving testimonials from patients who have undergone successful transplants at Grande, as well as those currently receiving dialysis.
To mark the occasion, the hospital also honored patients currently undergoing treatment for their resilience and journey toward recovery.
