Hotel Pauwa’s Bold Leap: Transforming Nepalese Hospitality into a Global Brand
15th March 2026, Kathmandu
The Nepalese hospitality sector is witnessing a historic transformation as Hotel Pauwa, one of the nation’s fastest-growing hotel chains, sets its sights on international expansion.
Hotel Pauwa’s Bold Leap
Despite a decade defined by natural disasters and shifting social dynamics, the brand is doubling down on its mission to bring authentic Nepalese hospitality to the world stage.
In a recent press briefing in Kathmandu, Dhruba Raj Neupane, Vice Chairman of Hotel Pauwa, shared the brand’s roadmap for the future, highlighting both ambitious growth and the stark realities facing the industry today.
Decade of Resilience: From Earthquake to Global Ambition
The story of Hotel Pauwa is one of grit. Founded in 2015, the company began its journey in the immediate aftermath of the devastating 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal.
“When we established the company, there was a haunting silence across the country,” Neupane recalled. “We started amidst the ruins, and just as we began to find our footing, the COVID-19 pandemic brought a decade of economic stagnation.”
Despite these “Black Swan” events, the brand has demonstrated remarkable agility. Today, it stands as a testament to local investment, boasting 19 branches across Nepal and earning the title of the country’s fastest-growing hospitality network.
Strategic Expansion: 5-Star Luxury and Mega Resorts
Hotel Pauwa isn’t just growing in numbers; it is elevating the standard of luxury in Nepal. The group has several high-profile projects currently in the pipeline:
Nepalgunj 5-Star Project: Construction is underway for a premier five-star property aimed at high-end tourists and business travelers.
Palpa Mega Resort: A massive development spanning 35 ropanis (approx. 4.4 acres) is being built to capture the serene beauty of the hills.
New Horizons: Following a successful launch in Hetauda, the brand is preparing to open a new chain in Janakpur, the heart of Mithila culture.
Navigating the “Gen Z” Challenge and Economic Impact
While the physical expansion is booming, the human element remains a challenge. Neupane pointed out that the “Gen Z movement” and changing social tides have created a ripple effect in the tourism sector.
The Vice Chairman revealed a staggering loss of over 50 million NPR (5 Crore) in canceled bookings during the peak tourist season. This downturn is attributed to negative international perceptions fueled by recent social unrest, leading to a significant “manpower drain” and a sense of “private sector despair.”
Redefining the Cost of Hospitality
Addressing the common perception that hotels in Nepal are becoming too expensive, Neupane was quick to clarify. He argued that the issue isn’t the price, but the quality of service delivery.
“The idea that Nepalese hotels are expensive is a misconception,” he stated. “What we truly need is a massive focus on hospitality training. To compete globally, we must refine how we treat our guests, ensuring the ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ (Guest is God) philosophy is backed by international standards.”
The Future: A Global Nepalese Identity
The ultimate goal for Hotel Pauwa is clear: to become an international brand. By forming a specialized team of industry experts, the group aims to export the unique warmth of Nepalese hospitality to global markets, proving that a brand born in the shadows of the Himalayas can shine on any street in the world.
