This intensive four-day workshop is being held at the Hotel Shrestha Residency in Simara, Bara, marking a pivotal moment for tourism development within the Madhesh Province.
A Strategic Collaboration for Sustainable Growth
The program is a joint initiative involving high-level stakeholders dedicated to the future of Nepal’s travel industry:
-
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB)
-
UNDP Nepal
-
NATTA Madhesh Province
By combining the resources of the Sustainable Tourism Project (STP) with NATTA’s industry expertise, the training aims to bridge the gap between traditional sightseeing and high-value cultural immersion.
Empowering Tourism Professionals in Madhesh
The opening session featured a distinguished lineup of industry leaders, including NATTA Executive Member Mr. Yagya Murti Acharya, NATTA Madhesh Province President Mr. Mohan Sharma, and Mr. Yubraj Lama. Their presence underscores the importance of regional capacity building in the Terai belt.
Key highlights of the program include:
Participant Engagement: More than 35 tourism professionals from across Madhesh Province are currently enrolled.
Practical Skill-Building: The curriculum focuses on enhancing technical knowledge regarding heritage site management and cultural storytelling.
Expert Coordination: The program is meticulously coordinated by NATTA Executive Member Mrs. Shradha Joshi, ensuring that the training meets international standards for professional tour guiding.
Why Culture and Heritage Matter for Simara and Bara
While Simara is often viewed as an industrial and transport hub, its proximity to unique cultural landmarks and the rich traditions of the Madhesh region offers untapped potential. This initiative reflects NATTA’s commitment to:
Strengthening Capacity: Equipping local guides and agents with the tools to provide authentic, professional experiences.
Promoting Sustainability: Aligning with UNDP goals to ensure tourism benefits local communities while preserving history.
Diversifying the Tourism Map: Highlighting Madhesh Province as a premier destination for heritage enthusiasts.
“This initiative reflects NATTA’s continuous commitment to strengthening the capacity of tourism professionals and promoting sustainable tourism development across Nepal.”
Looking Ahead
As the program continues through March 22nd, the focus remains on transforming the theoretical knowledge of heritage into practical, marketable skills.
This training is a cornerstone for the “Madhesh Tourism” movement, promising a more professionalized and culturally aware workforce ready to welcome global travelers.
