The meeting focused on addressing the systemic challenges facing the automotive industry and exploring avenues for provincial cooperation to bolster infrastructure and skilled human resources.
Provincial Challenges and Government Vision
Chief Minister Baniya congratulated the newly formed NADA executive committee, acknowledging the association’s 50-year legacy spanning three political eras in Nepal.
Highlighting that 50% of the country’s vehicles are registered within the Bagmati Province, the Chief Minister emphasized the urgent need to tackle Kathmandu’s escalating traffic congestion and parking crises.
He formally invited NADA to collaborate with the provincial government to develop modern trial centers and create sustainable employment opportunities to build a robust domestic workforce.
Economic Impact and Workforce Development
President Surendra Kumar Upreti underscored NADA’s extensive reach, noting its 2,883 member companies across seven provinces and a total investment exceeding Rs 100 billion.
He highlighted a critical gap in the labor market, stating that the sector requires at least 5,000 new skilled professionals annually.
To bridge this gap, President Upreti committed to submitting a formal modality to the Bagmati government outlining specific areas for joint ventures in technical education and infrastructure management.
Tackling Brain Drain and Technical Evolution
Adding to the discourse, Immediate Past President Karan Chaudhary noted that the automobile sector is actively working to curb “brain drain” by retaining young talent through skill-based training programs.
However, Rajan Babu Shrestha, NADA’s Distinguished Advisor, pointed out the rapid evolution of automotive technology as a primary challenge. He stressed that Nepal requires updated curricula, enhanced resources, and specialized trainers to match global technological shifts, a mission NADA is currently spearheading.
Leadership Presence
The delegation represented a comprehensive cross-section of NADA’s leadership: Institutional Vice Presidents Bhadra Bhandari and Ganesh Bhattarai, Vice Presidents Vikram Singhania and Abhik Jyoti, General Secretary Milan Babu Malla, Treasurer Pankaj Agrawal, and Assistant Treasurer Nilamani Pathak.
Central Committee members Deepak Raj Giri, Narayan Prasad Paudel, and Rajesh Giri were also present to support the strategic dialogue aimed at transforming the Bagmati Province into a hub for organized automotive growth.
