IPL 2026 Chennai Super Kings Defeat
Defending a challenging total, Chennai’s disciplined bowling attack restricted Kolkata to 160 runs, securing a 32-run win.
First Innings: Sanju Samson Leads the Charge
After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Chennai Super Kings posted a formidable total of 192/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Despite an early setback with captain and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad falling for just 7 runs, the middle order stabilized the innings. Sanju Samson top-scored for the side with a resilient 48 runs off 32 balls, featuring four boundaries and three sixes.
Explosive contributions from the younger lot further bolstered the total:
Ayush Mhatre: A quickfire 38 runs off 17 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes).
Dewald Brevis: A solid 41 runs off 29 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes).
Sarfaraz Khan: A handy cameo of 23 runs off 18 balls.
Second Innings: Kolkata Falters in the Chase
Chasing a target of 193, Kolkata Knight Riders struggled to maintain the required run rate against Chennai’s tight bowling lines. KKR managed to reach only 160/7 at the end of their 20 overs.
While several batsmen got starts, none could convert them into a match-winning performance, leaving Kolkata 32 runs short of the target.
Points Table Movement
With this victory, Chennai Super Kings have recorded their second win in five matches. This result has allowed them to climb one spot in the rankings, currently sitting in eighth position on the IPL 2026 points table.
