Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Dr. Bikram Timilsina, has stated that information technology has now become a fundamental necessity for citizens.

In a message delivered today on the occasion of the 9th National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Day, 2083, the Minister emphasized that ICT is indispensable for good governance, effective service delivery, economic development, entrepreneurship promotion, and citizen empowerment in the digital age.
Digital Nepal: A Strategic Vision
Under the theme “Expansion of ICT: The Foundation of Sustainable Development,” Minister Bikram Timilsina highlighted that the Government of Nepal is actively working to translate the “Digital Nepal” vision into reality.
The primary objective is to make the public service delivery system simpler, more transparent, accountable, and citizen-friendly.
To achieve this, the government has placed a high priority on:

Formulating a long-term ICT strategy for the next decade.

The development of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

Strengthening the Nagarik App to provide essential state services through a single digital platform.
Nepal as a Regional Tech Hub
Minister Bikram Timilsina revealed that the government is intensifying reforms in legal and institutional frameworks to develop Nepal as a regional hub for digital innovation, IT services, the data economy, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Key initiatives include:

Implementation of the National AI Policy.

Execution of the Cyber Security Policy.

Enhancement of Government Data Centers and Disaster Recovery systems.
Closing the Digital Divide
The government remains committed to building a secure, reliable, inclusive, and sustainable digital ecosystem. The Minister pledged to reduce the digital divide by:

Expanding high-speed broadband internet across the country.

Enhancing digital literacy.

Producing a skilled workforce to serve as a “growth engine” for the national economy.
Furthermore, he stressed that the ICT sector is a vital tool for job creation, nurturing young talent, and fostering the development of startups in Nepal.
A Call For Collaboration
Recognizing that digital transformation cannot be achieved by the government alone, Minister Bikram Timilsina called for mandatory cooperation between the private sector, academic institutions, development partners, media, and the tech community.
He invited all stakeholders to join hands in the shared journey toward building a prosperous, modern, and Digital Nepal.
