HAMS Hospital Upgrades Investment: 50 Crores to Double Bed Capacity
25th May 2026, Kathmandu
HAMS Hospital, located in Dhumbarahi, is set to significantly scale up its healthcare infrastructure and services. To meet the growing influx of patients and integrate cutting-edge medical technology, HAMS Hospital is upgrading to 200 beds with a 50 crore investment, doubling its current 100-bed capacity.

The hospital is rapidly constructing a brand-new, modern 8-story facility (including an underground basement) sprawling across nearly two ropanis of land. This massive expansion is also slated to generate employment opportunities for an additional 200 healthcare and administrative professionals.
Rapid Construction of a State-of-the-Art 8-Story Facility
According to R.S. Bhandari, Chairman of HAMS Hospital, the expansion became vital to manage high patient volumes, introduce advanced medical technologies, and bring services currently operating out of leased properties under one roof.
The new annex building adds 50,000 square feet of space right next to the current main building.
Building Structure: 8 stories plus 1 underground basement.
Total Area: 50,000 square feet.
Timeline: Construction began three months ago and is scheduled to be completed within the next four months.
“We are constructing the new building because physical infrastructure is critical to expand our departments and house new technologies, including advanced medical robotics,” Chairman Bhandari stated.
Funding the Expansion: Private Investors and Upcoming IPO
The financial breakdown shows that HAMS Hospital upgrades to 200 beds with a 50 crore investment through a mix of private funding and public equity.
While the physical construction of the new building is estimated to cost between 25 and 30 crore NPR, the total investment will touch nearly 50 crore NPR once high-tech medical equipment is integrated.
| Investment Breakdown | Estimated Cost (NPR) | Funding Source |
| Building Construction | 25 – 30 Crores | Secured from Investors (35 Crores raised so far) |
| Tech & Medical Equipment | 20 – 25 Crores | To be raised via Upcoming IPO (Targeting 24 Crores) |
HAMS Hospital submitted its application to the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) two years ago to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO).
“We are the first hospital in the history of Nepal to meet all of SEBON’s criteria and apply for an IPO launch,” Chairman Bhandari told Health Aawaz. “It has been two years since we applied, and the file is still awaiting a final decision from SEBON.”
Upgraded Healthcare Services and Department Expansion
Once the new facility is fully operational and the hospital completes its 200-bed upgrade, patients will gain access to highly specialized, comprehensive care. Major upgrades include:
Dedicated Gynecology Floor: An entire floor will be dedicated to Gynecology, housing everything from labor rooms to Pediatric OPDs for seamless care.
ICU and Cabin Expansion: The current 19-bed ICU will be expanded. Additionally, two entire floors will be dedicated to adding 25 to 30 new private single rooms (cabins).
Consolidation of Services: Services currently running in leased external buildings, such as Wellness, Dermatology, Physiotherapy, Dental, and the Administrative block, will be permanently relocated to the new building.
Currently, HAMS Hospital delivers specialized healthcare services across 25 different departments.
Creating 200 New Employment Opportunities
This expansion is set to boost the local economy by creating significant employment opportunities in the healthcare sector. HAMS Hospital currently employs 800 staff members.
Once the upgrade to 200 beds is complete and the new facility opens, an additional 200 medical and administrative staff will be recruited, bringing the hospital’s total workforce to 1,000 employees.
Conclusion
HAMS Hospital faced severe bed shortages during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the high influx of patients continues to strain its current 100-bed capacity.
As HAMS Hospital upgrades to 200 beds with a 50 crore investment, this proactive expansion is poised to set a new benchmark for advanced medical technology and quality healthcare in Nepal’s private medical sector.
