Citizens Bank Hosts Nationwide Tree Plantation Campaign for Climate Action
8th June 2026, Kathmandu
Citizens Bank International Limited organized a massive nationwide tree plantation campaign to mark World Environment Day 2026.
Citizens Bank Tree Plantation
The extensive environmental protection drive was executed seamlessly under the Corporate Social Responsibility portfolio of the financial institution. The core objective of this synchronized green campaign is to support global climate action, increase local forest coverage, and promote long-term sustainable development across municipal zones.
Distributed Forestry: 1500 Saplings Planted Across All Seven Provinces
The environmental protection initiative was not confined to a single city but was spread systematically across every administrative province of the country.
The primary launching event for the central region took place at the Chaukidanda Tourist Park located in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu. During this main gathering, volunteers planted approximately 250 saplings consisting of diverse native tree species.
To maximize the national impact, the bank conducted coordinated planting activities throughout the seven provinces:
- Koshi Province: 200 saplings planted in designated community forestry zones
- Madhesh Province: 250 saplings planted to combat rapid deforestation trends
- Bagmati Province: 250 saplings planted at the primary Kathmandu capital site
- Gandaki Province: 200 saplings planted to protect fragile river watershed areas
- Lumbini Province: 200 saplings planted to expand urban green lung spaces
- Karnali Province: 200 saplings planted to help control regional soil erosion
- Sudurpashchim Province: 200 saplings planted to enhance local biodiversity layers
This countrywide alignment successfully brought the total volume of newly planted trees to 1500 units.
By distributing the environmental campaign across diverse ecological zones, the commercial bank ensures that rural, semi-urban, and metropolitan communities benefit equally from increased green cover and soil stabilization.
Supporting Global Climate Action and Preserving Native Ecosystems
The coordinated green campaign was planned in complete harmony with the foundational World Environment Day 2026 global theme, which centers directly on urgent Climate Action.
The corporate leadership highlighted that routine tree planting remains one of the most practical and efficient methods available to reduce greenhouse gas accumulations.
The long-term operational targets established for this provincial planting drive include:
- Reducing the immediate negative impacts of climate change in vulnerable zones
- Promoting regional environmental sustainability through direct public involvement
- Increasing the density of green coverage across heavily populated urban centers
- Protecting native animal and plant ecosystems from rapid habitat loss
- Encouraging widespread public awareness regarding localized conservation efforts
By integrating corporate resources with grassroots community execution, the bank helps minimize carbon footprints while restoring natural landscapes.
The newly added plant life will eventually provide shade, clean the surrounding air, and foster a healthy habitat for local birds and insects, reinforcing regional climate resilience.
Leadership Involvement and Strong Collaboration with Local Authorities
The large-scale provincial tree planting drive was supported by senior corporate administrators and regional municipal protectors.
Ganesh Raj Pokharel, the Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Bank International Limited, personally participated in the central event alongside notable community leader Surendra Lama.
The event also welcomed a dedicated gathering of senior bank management officials, general staff volunteers, and enthusiastic local community stakeholders.
During the formal opening address, CEO Ganesh Raj Pokharel stated that every individual sapling planted during the drive would contribute directly to cleaner air, safer environments, and healthier living conditions for future generations.
