Ncell to ShutDown 3G Network in 35 Local Levels for 4G VoLTE Upgrade
12th July 2026, Kathmandu
Ncell announces the shutdown of its 3G service in 35 local levels across Ilam, Panchthar, Parsa, and Dang starting Monday to boost 4G VoLTE connectivity.
Ncell ShutDown 3G Network
In line with its strategy to upgrade infrastructure and adopt advanced telecommunication technologies, Ncell is set to shut down its 3G network in 35 local levels across four districts starting tomorrow, Ashadh 29 (Monday).
The telecom operator is phasing out 3G to reallocate resources toward strengthening its 4G network and boosting its Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) services. According to Ncell, this upgrade aims to significantly enhance both voice and data experiences for its subscribers without any additional tariff adjustments.
Accelerating the Transition to 4G and VoLTE
With the 3G shutdown, Ncell plans to transition users to its robust 4G network, which already covers approximately 95% of the country’s population. By leveraging VoLTE technology, the company will deliver high-definition (HD) voice quality, faster call setup times, and seamless mobile broadband connectivity.
To benefit from VoLTE services, subscribers must fulfill the following criteria:
-
Use a 4G-compatible smartphone.
-
Possess a 4G SIM card (or eSIM).
-
Be located within an active 4G network coverage area.
Ncell noted that many customers who already own 4G-enabled handsets and SIM cards are still legacy-connected to the 3G network. This transition will automatically upgrade their connectivity to a superior mobile experience at the same regular service rates.
Affected Regions and Local Levels
The phase-out will take effect across more than 215 telecom towers spanning four districts in three provinces. The specific local levels where 3G will go offline include:
