15th August 2026, Kathmandu
Discover what’s new as Instagram updates its wordmark logo for the first time in 10 years, featuring a modern design and mixed user reactions.
Instagram Updates Wordmark Logo
Social media giant Instagram has updated its wordmark logo for the first time in a decade. Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has refined the typography in the new logo to make it look more modern, clear, and streamlined.
Instagram Head Adam Mosseri officially unveiled the new wordmark across Instagram and Threads. According to Mosseri, the updated design preserves the core identity of the original logo while making the lettering cleaner, more contemporary, and visually engaging.
What Has Changed in the New Wordmark?
The new wordmark retains Instagram’s familiar script style, but adjustments have been made to the sizing and structure of the letters. Notably, the redesign of certain characters has caught the attention of users worldwide.
Moseri noted that the wordmark displayed within the app had remained largely unchanged for nearly 10 years, prompting a timely refresh to match modern aesthetic standards. He emphasized that the new design successfully balances Instagram’s classic identity with improved simplicity.
A Look Back at Past Changes
Instagram last introduced a massive overhaul to its overall brand design back in 2016. During that redesign, the company replaced its classic retro brown camera icon and rainbow stripe with the vibrant, pink-gradient camera icon currently familiar to millions.
User Reception and Scope of the Update
Following the rollout of the new wordmark, user reactions have been mixed. While some users have welcomed the fresh, modern, and sleek design, others have expressed disappointment with the alterations.
It is worth noting that the core app icon remains unchanged. This update focuses strictly on the wordmark used across app branding and marketing platforms.
