Nepal Rastra Bank Invites Global Bids to Mint 400 Million One Rupee Coins

Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank of Nepal, has formally issued an international tender for the design, production, supply, and transportation of 400 million units of one-rupee denomination coins.

The procurement process is being managed by the central bank’s Currency Management Department.
Eligible Bidders and Pre-Qualified Firms
- Qualification Criteria: Only pre-qualified foreign security printing and minting companies that meet Nepal Rastra Bank’s technical and operational standards are eligible to participate in the bidding process.
- Pre-Qualified Companies: The eligible list of international minting entities includes China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation (China), De La Rue International (UK), Giesecke & Devrient Currency Technology (Germany), Joint Stock Company (Russia), Oberthur Fiduciaire SAS (France), and Polish Security Printing Works (Poland).
Bidding Timeline and Submission Guidelines
Document Purchase Fee: Interested pre-qualified entities can obtain the tender documentation upon payment of a non-refundable fee of NPR 20,000.
- Pre-Bid Meeting: A pre-bid conference for prospective bidders is scheduled for October 15 at 12:00 PM.
- Submission Deadline: Final bid proposals must be submitted by November 3 at 12:00 PM. Submitted bids will be opened on the same day at 1:00 PM.
Financial Guarantee and Validity Requirements
- Earnest Money Deposit: Participating firms are required to submit a bid security guarantee of at least USD 148,000.
- Validity Period: The submitted bids must remain valid for 120 days from the submission date, while the bid security guarantee must remain valid for an additional 30 days beyond the bid validity period.
