Nepal Government Distributes ‘Injured’ ID Cards to Gen Z Protesters: Victims React
5th October 2025, Kathmandu
In a formal step towards recognizing and compensating those affected by the recent political unrest, the Nepal Government has begun distributing ‘Injured’ Identity Cards to individuals hurt during the highly publicized Gen Z Movement that took place on Bhadra 23 and 24 (mid-September).
Nepal Government Distributes Injured ID Cards
On Sunday, the distribution process was highlighted by an event at the National Trauma Centre, where three additional injured individuals officially received their cards.
56 Protesters Receive ID Cards and ₹20,000 Relief
Speaking to the media, Mukti Ram Rijal, Assistant Chief District Officer and Spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO), provided an update on the government’s efforts.
“We have been actively distributing identity cards to the demonstrators, including those undergoing treatment in the hospital, those on bed rest at home, and others who can come forward,” Rijal stated.
According to Rijal, the government has so far distributed the identity cards, along with an immediate relief payment of ₹20,000 (Nepali Rupees) for urgent expenses, to a total of 56 injured individuals, as per the national government’s decision.
The DAO confirmed that efforts are being accelerated to reach other reported victims swiftly.
Victims Express Frustration Over Slow Response
Despite the official recognition and financial support, the sentiments among the injured recipients were mixed.
Many expressed profound disappointment, claiming the current interim government has failed to meet expectations or provide timely attention to the crisis.
The injured individuals highlighted that while they appreciate the ID cards, hundreds of casualties across the country are still struggling for treatment, emphasizing a critical gap between government announcements and ground reality.
The distribution of these cards is intended to streamline the victims’ access to free and subsidized medical treatment and essential relief.
Coordination by Gen Z Doctor
The distribution of the Gen Z Injured Card is reportedly being coordinated by Gen Z Doctor Jagat BK, who is credited with proposing the initial concept for the card to ensure proper documentation and ongoing care for the injured protesters.
This collaboration between government efforts and movement figures underscores the complexities of the current political and social landscape.
The government’s move to issue these cards and establish dedicated treatment clinics across the country marks an important step toward acknowledging the severity of the casualties resulting from the recent pro-reform protests.
