NRNA President Mahesh Honored by Nepal Police For Rebuilding Bagikhana Traffic Control Room
18th October 2025, Kathmandu
On the auspicious occasion of its 70th Establishment Day, the Nepal Police officially honored Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, President of the Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) International Coordination Council.
NRNA President Mahesh Honored
The special ceremony, held at the Police Headquarters in Naxal, recognized the NRNA’s critical contribution to national infrastructure and public safety.
The honor, presented by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandra Kuber Khapung, specifically acknowledged the NRNA’s financial and logistical support for the reconstruction of the Valley Traffic Police Office, Bagikhana.
A Critical Reconstruction Effort
The Valley Traffic Police Office at Bagikhana sustained heavy damage during the Gen-Z movement on Bhadra 23–24. Recognizing the vital role of the office in maintaining order and road safety in the Kathmandu Valley, the NRNA stepped in to fund and oversee the restoration of the crucial Traffic Control Room.
During the ceremony, IGP Khapung presented a Certificate of Appreciation (Kadar Patra) to President Shrestha, commending the diaspora community’s swift and significant support.
Commitment to Road Safety and National Development
Accepting the honor, President Mahesh Shrestha emphasized the NRNA’s belief that road safety is paramount to societal normalcy and national development.
“The NRNA is proud to have contributed to this vital reconstruction effort,” Shrestha stated. “We remain committed to supporting the Nepal Police and other government bodies based on national needs in the days to come.”
Traffic Control Room Nears Completion
The NRNA’s reconstruction project is currently in its final phase. According to Manoj Kumar Shrestha, NRNA Vice President and Coordinator of the Disaster Management Committee, the organization has estimated the total cost for the control room reconstruction and the installation of essential equipment at over 80 lakh Nepalese Rupees (NPR 8 Million).
The Vice President confirmed that the process of integrating necessary modern equipment into the traffic control room is ongoing, with plans to officially hand over the fully operational facility to the Traffic Police in a few days.
This initiative ensures the Kathmandu Valley’s traffic management system will be restored to its optimal, technology-friendly state.
