This temporary leadership change follows Governor Dr. Bishwanath Paudel’s departure to Switzerland on Tuesday, where he is participating in a week-long international financial conference in Geneva.
Governor Dr. Paudel, who assumed office in March 2024, is attending high-level meetings aimed at strengthening monetary policy coordination, international financial cooperation, and central bank leadership networking. As per Nepal Rastra Bank’s official schedule, he is expected to return on Ashar 19, 2081 (July 3, 2024).
Until Governor Paudel’s return, Acting Governor Bam Bahadur Mishra will oversee all operational and policy-related responsibilities of the central bank. The Finance Ministry of Nepal formally assigned him the acting role effective from Wednesday, June 26.
In a rare situation, Senior Deputy Governor Dr. Neelam Dhungana Timsina is also out of the country, currently attending the SAARCFINANCE meeting in Bangladesh, representing Nepal in regional financial collaboration initiatives.
The appointment of Bam Bahadur Mishra as acting central bank head ensures uninterrupted monetary regulation, financial sector stability, and continued implementation of the central banking roadmap during this transition.
The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) reassured stakeholders that all operations, including foreign exchange management, interest rate policies, and financial supervision, will continue without disruption.
This temporary leadership arrangement underlines the importance of having a strong deputy leadership structure at the central bank, enabling seamless transitions during international engagements of top officials.
The NRB remains committed to maintaining macroeconomic stability, promoting financial inclusion, and advancing digital banking transformation in Nepal.
