On Monday, Facebook Inc’s Instagram appointed Adam Mosseri as a new head of the photo-sharing app, a week after its former founder resigned. Mosseri was officially associated with Instagram from a long time back.

Mosseri, who enrolled on Facebook in 2008, was the latest Instagram’s vice president. Earlier he used to manage Facebook’s news feed and spent a decade working closely with Facebook’s Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg.

In a blog post, the company’ stated, Mosseri will supervise all functions of the business and will recruit a new executive lineup.

The reason behind the resignation of co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger as a chief executive officer is still unclear. They have given a scant explanation regarding the move.

Their leaving from Instagram, Facebook’s fastest-growing revenue generator, followed the departure of Jan Koum, co-founder of Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp.

Systrom and Krieger resigned because they want to explore their curiosity and creativity again, reports Reuters.

Shares of Facebook were down 1.3 percent at $162.35.
