This inspiring journey, shared with family and fellow artists at Trishuli Riverside Resort, highlights that adventure knows no age limit.
As a premier destination for whitewater sports, Nepal continues to prove to the Nepalese public and international tourists alike that seniors can safely enjoy the thrill of the river, boosting the country’s reputation for inclusive adventure tourism.
Shrestha recently participated in a rafting program operated by Trishuli Riverside Resort, located near Malekhu along the Prithvi Highway.
The program was attended by members of the Shrestha family as well as the family of popular singer Satya Raj Acharya, highlighting the growing appeal of adventure tourism among all age groups.
Sharing his experience, Shrestha said that age should never limit one’s desire to enjoy life or explore new activities. Having rafted previously, he described this second experience as equally thrilling. “I was a little nervous at first, but once the raft began flowing with the river, it became exciting and energizing,” he said.
His son, Yaman Shrestha, who joined him on the trip, said the experience was especially meaningful as it allowed him to travel and enjoy adventure sports alongside his father.
According to Uddhav Kandel, operator of Trishuli Riverside Resort, rafting on the Trishuli River has seen a noticeable rise in both domestic and international tourists in recent years.
He noted that the participation of senior artists like Madan Krishna Shrestha, along with well-known singers, sends a positive message encouraging adventure tourism in Nepal.
The resort has been operating rafting, canoeing, and kayaking activities for over a decade. Recently, it has expanded its offerings to include ziplining and sky rope cycling. Located approximately 70 kilometers west of Kathmandu at Malinga near Malekhu, the resort has also introduced Nepal’s first river-crossing sky rope cycling attraction.
Targeting both leisure and adventure travelers, Trishuli Riverside Resort has developed Trishuli Villa, located opposite the resort. Trishuli Villa features 25 villas and tented camps, a 200-capacity banquet hall, and a swimming pool.
Kandel added that further expansion of adventure and tourism-friendly activities is planned in the near future.
Nepal is internationally recognized as a premier whitewater rafting destination, thanks to its Himalayan-fed rivers and diverse river grades.
Rivers such as the Trishuli, Bhote Koshi, Sun Koshi, Kali Gandaki, and Karnali attract adventure enthusiasts from around the world, reinforcing Nepal’s reputation for sustainable, experience-based tourism.
