Held on Baisakh 13 at the Universal Engineering and Science College in Chakupat, Lalitpur, the training drew leaders and cadres from all ten district-level contact forums.
Training Focus: AI in Political Promotion
The event was themed “Use of AI in Party Promotion: Present and Future,” and aimed to empower party leaders and members with modern digital tools. The sessions were led by Engineer Asgar Ali, IT advisor to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Dr. Engineer Sameer Kharel, Associate Professor and cybersecurity expert.
Engineer Ali discussed current AI and IT practices being adopted by CPN-UML, while Dr. Kharel focused on empowering political leadership through cybersecurity and AI tools. They emphasized that in the smartphone-driven digital age, effective use of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, and TikTok is essential for impactful political messaging.
Combating Misinformation and Digital Threats
The trainers highlighted the importance of identifying and countering misleading or fake content on social media. They offered practical tips on how to verify news, avoid misinformation traps, and protect digital identity in the age of increasing cybercrime.
Dr. Kharel stressed that understanding and responsibly using AI-powered tools, like chatbots and data analytics, can help political parties gain strategic insights through scientific data analysis.
How Secure is CPN-UML’s App?
Engineer Ali reassured attendees that the party’s official app, ‘CPN (UML)’, and its website are secure and offer various functionalities for party members. These include accessing leadership thoughts, reviewing activities, submitting personal information securely, and engaging in internal communications.
He urged members to adopt the app widely and stop relying on others to communicate party activities:
“Let’s stop expecting others to write our stories. Let’s create and share our own.”
Ali also warned that failure to utilize official apps and social media effectively could negatively impact the party in upcoming elections.
Highlighting Global Practices and Political Tech Trends
Both speakers cited examples from international politics, where leaders have successfully leveraged digital tools and social media for election campaigns, branding, and public engagement. The session encouraged participants to adopt similar strategies with a focus on trust, efficiency, and influence.
Tribute to Man Mohan Adhikari and Leadership Participation
The training began with a tribute to democratic leader Man Mohan Adhikari, led by Standing Committee Member and Contact Coordination In-Charge Lalbabu Pandit. The program was chaired by Saroj Mohan Lama, head of the Publicity and IT team, and hosted by Departmental Secretary Bed Rana Magar.
