The company’s new subsidiary, Arksh Food, has introduced a variety of millet products like biscuits, cookies, and puffs to the Nepali market.

Shift from Imported Goods to Local Production

Previously focused on importing international food products, Arksh Food changed direction after the COVID-19 pandemic. Market Director Gopal Krishna Shrestha explained that the economic downturn prompted them to prioritize local production. “We realized it was time to focus on Nepalese ingredients,” he said.

Millet Gains Popularity as a Superfood

Millet, once considered food for the poor, is now recognized for its health benefits. Arksh Food identified millet as the ideal ingredient for their new range of snacks. “Consumers are becoming more health-conscious, avoiding refined flour,” Shrestha said, citing the success of their millet-based “Dami Puff.”

Sourcing Locally from Western Nepal

The company sources its millet from the Trishuli region in Nepal’s western hills, where production is strong. Arksh Food’s production facility is based in Bhaktapur, where they manufacture biscuits, cookies, and puffs using locally sourced millet. Shrestha emphasized their commitment to using fresh, local ingredients.

Growing Market Demand

Within just six months of launching, Arksh Food’s millet products have gained traction in Nepal. Sales have expanded across the country, from Kathmandu to Mahendranagar. “We’re seeing positive reactions from customers in various cities,” Shrestha shared. The company has also started exporting “Dami Puff” to countries like Australia and New Zealand.

Future Expansion Plans

Arksh Food’s plans include introducing more millet-based products, like millet puffs and corn-millet biscuits. The company also aims to enter new markets such as the UK and Denmark. “International demand for health-focused products is growing,” said Shrestha. The company plans to strengthen its export presence while continuing to innovate with local ingredients.

Supporting Nepali Farmers

Arksh Food is committed to sourcing millet from local farmers. Shrestha explained, “By using locally grown millet, we support Nepali farmers and ensure high-quality products.” This approach helps maintain the sustainability of their production while keeping costs fair for both producers and consumers.

Competitive Pricing with Focus on Market Growth

Although millet-based products are more expensive to produce, Arksh Food has priced them competitively with conventional snacks. The company aims to build a strong market presence before adjusting prices. Shrestha concluded, “Once we establish our market, we’ll consider price adjustments.”

Arksh Group’s move into millet-based foods highlights its commitment to health-conscious, sustainable products and its ambition to expand into global markets.
