The film promises to chronicle the remarkable journey of Captain Thapa, a renowned pilot, entrepreneur, and media visionary.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Dipendra K. Khanal, ‘Captain Saab’ marks the second presentation from Pataakha Production. The auspicious muhurat shot was inaugurated by businessman Dr. Upendra Mahato Kalyap and Captain Thapa himself, signifying the official start of production.
The film boasts a talented cast, featuring leading Nepali actors Khagendra Lamichhane, Sushma Pant, and Sanjog Rasaili in pivotal roles. This project reunites Lamichhane and Pant with director Khanal, who previously collaborated with them on the critically acclaimed film Dhanapati. However, ‘Captain Saab’ will be the first time all three actors share the screen under Khanal’s direction.
Krishna Bahadur Thapa is the cinematographer for ‘Captain Saab’, with filming scheduled to commence in the first week of Bhadra (late August 2025). Production will take place across various scenic locations, including Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Kavre.
Director Khanal shared his vision for the film: “Captain Saab will be a unique cinematic experience. Inspired by the highs and lows of Captain Rameshwar Thapa’s life, we plan to take creative liberties to make it a fully entertaining movie. It will explore his challenges in the skies, the respect he commands locally, and his encounters with various individuals in business—creating what we believe will be a compelling and impactful story.”
The film is being co-produced by Yarsa Studio and Rich Entertainment. Alongside director Khanal, Karan Shrestha and Shristima Khanal are credited as producers, with Sirjana Napit serving as the executive producer. Dipendra K. Khanal himself has penned the story. Other key crew members include Saugat Basnet as Chief Assistant Director, Bhimsain Shahi ‘Royal Bhimsen’ for Poster & Publicity Design (Trident Concept), Aki Thekpa as Production Designer, and Rohit Raj Gautam and Bishnu Mainali as Production Managers.
‘Captain Saab’ is set to be a powerful biopic, blending drama, emotion, and realism, offering audiences a compelling look into the multifaceted life of a man who soared through the skies and successfully navigated the complex worlds of business and media.
