In a clear signal of its aggressive expansion strategy and unwavering commitment to Nepal’s burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market, Chinese EV giant BYD has officially expanded its local lineup to a total of seven models.
BYD Atto 2 launch NADA
The latest addition, the BYD Atto 2, was formally launched by Cimex Inc., the authorized distributor for BYD in Nepal, on the opening day of the NADA Auto Show 2025 at Bhrikutimandap.
The launch of the Atto 2 marks a period of rapid and significant growth for BYD in the country. This new compact SUV is the third model to be introduced in less than a month, showcasing Cimex Inc.’s dedication to providing a wide range of electric mobility solutions to Nepali consumers.
The company previously unveiled the Atto 1, known as the BYD Seagull in China and Dolphin Surf in European markets, at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo on August 6th, and the Sealion 7 SUV on July 24th. This rapid-fire launch schedule highlights BYD’s ambition to cater to a diverse clientele, from first-time EV buyers to luxury vehicle enthusiasts.
With the Atto 2 now on the market, the complete BYD lineup in Nepal includes: Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, M6, Sealion 7, Atto 1, and Atto 2. This impressive portfolio of seven models is a testament to BYD’s comprehensive approach, with prices ranging from an accessible Rs 2.89 million to a premium Rs 19.5 million. This price diversity ensures that BYD has an offering for nearly every segment of the market, from urban commuters to large families and performance-oriented drivers.
The new launches have solidified BYD’s position as a leader in offering a tiered pricing structure that makes electric mobility more accessible. The most affordable model in the lineup is the Atto 1, a compact hatchback that has garnered significant attention since its recent debut.
The Dynamic variant of the Atto 1 is priced at a highly competitive Rs 2.895 million, while the Premium variant is available for Rs 3.299 million, making it a strong contender in the entry-level EV segment.
Following the Atto 1, the BYD Dolphin enters as the second most affordable option, with a price tag of Rs 4.115 million. The newly introduced Atto 2 is strategically positioned just above the Dolphin, priced at Rs 4.399 million. Both the Dolphin and the new Atto 2 are currently available in a single variant each, simplifying the choice for buyers and focusing on providing a comprehensive feature set at their respective price points.
For those seeking more space and performance, the renowned Atto 3, which has already established itself as one of Nepal’s most popular electric SUVs, remains a cornerstone of the BYD lineup. It is available in two variants: the Advanced, priced at Rs 5.69 million, and the Superior, at Rs 6.78 million. The electric MPV segment is addressed by the BYD M6, available in a single variant for Rs 5.89 million, offering a compelling blend of space and efficiency for larger families.
The recently launched Sealion 7 SUV, also available in a single variant, targets the premium SUV market with a price of Rs 7.499 million. At the very top of the range is the BYD Seal, a high-performance electric sedan that showcases the brand’s engineering prowess.
The Seal is offered in three variants, with prices starting from Rs 11 million for the Dynamic variant, Rs 14.55 million for the Premium, and reaching a staggering Rs 19.50 million for the top-of-the-line Performance variant.
Cimex Inc.’s strategy of continuous product launches and a broad price range is a clear indicator of the strong potential they see in Nepal’s electric vehicle market. By providing a diverse selection of models, from budget-friendly urban cars to luxurious performance vehicles, BYD is not just selling cars—it’s building a complete ecosystem for electric mobility in Nepal.
