Chandrakala Paudel Appointed Nepal Insurance Authority Chairperson
26th January 2026, Kathmandu
The Government of Nepal has appointed Secretary Chandrakala Paudel as the Chairperson of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).
The decision was finalized during a Cabinet meeting held on Monday. Paudel, who is currently serving as the Secretary at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, will hold this responsibility until further notice.
Key Highlights of the Appointment:
Appointee: Chandrakala Paudel (Secretary, Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration).
Authority: Government spokesperson and Home Minister Omprakash Aryal confirmed the appointment, stating she will lead the Board of Directors of the Authority.
Predecessor: The role was previously held by Janak Raj Sharma.
Context of the Decision
The appointment comes at a time of administrative transition for the regulatory body. While the government had intended to initiate a formal recruitment process for a permanent head, the procedure was halted due to ongoing litigation.
Currently, a legal case involving former Chairman Sharad Ojha remains sub judice in the Supreme Court. Consequently, the government opted to assign the leadership role to Secretary Paudel as an interim measure to ensure the Authority’s operations continue smoothly.
