Citizens Bank International Limited has once again demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility. The bank provided essential support to Awaj Nepal, an organization based in Surkhet, Karnali Province.
Citizens Bank CSR Initiative
This NGO works for the rights and empowerment of single women and children. It also addresses human trafficking, domestic violence, justice, and post-conflict rehabilitation.
For years, Awaj Nepal has been operating with the help of various donors. Currently, it supports around 40 women and children. Citizens Bank stepped in to provide hygiene products and daily-use items to last approximately two months. The initiative reflects the bank’s continued effort to address critical social issues through its CSR programs.
Support Delivered With Personal Involvement
The handover ceremony took place at the organization’s premises. Mr. Ganesh Raj Pokharel, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Bank, personally delivered the goods. He interacted with the beneficiaries and encouraged the organization’s efforts. While speaking at the event, Mr. Pokharel shared his happiness in being part of such meaningful work. He praised Aviyan Nepal for setting an example in the care and protection of vulnerable women and children.
He also conveyed his best wishes for the progress and well-being of the beneficiaries. Mr. Pokharel emphasized that organizations like Awaj Nepal inspire society by championing human dignity and justice.
CSR with a Broader Vision
Citizens Bank has built a solid reputation for its socially responsible banking. It has implemented multiple initiatives in the fields of education, health, gender empowerment, and financial inclusion. Through its CSR strategy, the bank aims to bring long-term and sustainable change. It believes in reaching the most underrepresented communities with practical support and impactful action.
Going forward, the bank plans to continue such programs in coordination with social organizations across the country. By focusing on the social, economic, cultural, and educational needs of the people, Citizens Bank aims to contribute to a more equitable society.
Recognition and Innovation in Banking
Recently, Citizens Bank received global recognition by winning the “Bank of the Year 2024” award. This award reflects the bank’s excellence in innovation, customer service, and financial inclusion. The bank continues to lead the way in introducing digital solutions to improve banking access for all.
In a recent collaboration with FonePe, the bank launched the Citizens PhonePay Credit Card. This is Nepal’s first virtual credit card. It allows users to access credit facilities directly through their smartphones. The service enhances convenience while promoting a cashless economy.
Digital Banking Services on the Rise
Citizens Bank is also improving its digital service offerings. Customers can now apply for IPO shares and manage their CRN (Customer Reference Number) through the bank’s mobile banking application. This makes investment access easier for everyday users.
In addition, the bank has introduced a cross-bank teller service. With this feature, customers of other banks can scan a QR code at Citizens Bank branches and withdraw cash instantly. This service reflects the bank’s open approach to digital interoperability and customer convenience.
Reaching Every Corner of Nepal
Citizens Bank continues to grow its national footprint. It now operates in 61 districts across Nepal. The bank has a strong presence with 200 branches, 168 ATMs, 3 extension counters, and 74 branchless banking units. Over 1.891 million customers benefit from its services.
The bank remains focused on financial inclusion. It actively promotes banking access for rural populations and economically vulnerable groups. Its CSR efforts, like the support to Aviyan Nepal, reflect the same goal — to build a more inclusive and empowered Nepal.
Conclusion: Banking with a Human Touch
Citizens Bank’s support to Awaj Nepal shows how banks can go beyond profit-making. By investing in women and children, the bank is investing in the country’s future. CSR is not just a side activity for Citizens Bank — it is a core principle. The bank’s leadership believes in delivering value to society through responsible, forward-looking action.
In a time when corporate responsibility matters more than ever, Citizens Bank stands out. With a balance of innovation, empathy, and strategic outreach, it sets a high standard for the Nepali banking industry. Its work in Surkhet is just one example of how thoughtful CSR can create a lasting impact.
