According to the Indian Parliament, over a million cyber attacks were reported in the last three years. The data, which was collected by the CERT division of India, showed that the country was hit by over 50,000 attacks in 2016.
Rajnath Singh, who is the Home Minister, reviewed the steps taken by the government to prevent cyber attacks. He also supported the efforts to strengthen the surveillance framework and deal with financial fraud.
Big data analysis is being widely used by the government to identify the attackers and prevent duplication of e-wallets.
The e-wallet industry is planning to launch a comprehensive alert mechanism that will include the names of the beneficiaries of any financial transaction. The same will also be published online, which will also include details of the fraudsters.
The government had also constituted an inter-ministerial committee to check phone frauds. The committee was headed by the home minister. To keep a check on phone fraud, the government has constituted an inter-ministerial committee headed by home minister P Chidambaram. The committee will look into various issues related to phone fraud.
