Dashain 2025 Traffic Police Plan: Help Desks, Night Patrols, and Tech-Based Monitoring in Kathmandu Valley
28th September 2025, Kathmandu
On the occasion of Nepal’s greatest festival, Vijaya Dashami (Dashain), the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has introduced a comprehensive traffic and security plan.
Dashain 2025 Traffic Police Plan
The initiative aims to manage heavy vehicle flow, prevent accidents, and ensure safe travel during the festive rush.
14 Help Desks for Public Support
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Nareshraj Subedi, 14 citizen help desks have been set up across major locations in the Valley. These centers provide travelers with information, address complaints, and offer quick solutions to emergencies.
“Our help desks play a vital role in raising awareness and responding immediately to passenger needs,” said SP Subedi.
Valley Divided Into Two Groups for Traffic Control
To manage the increased traffic during Dashain, Kathmandu has been divided into two operational groups: Group A, comprising 23 traffic units, and Group B, comprising 24 units.
SP Subedi emphasized awareness over punishment:
“Our objective is not fines but education. If someone makes a mistake, we prefer giving them a chance to correct it.”
69 Night Patrol Units Against Drunk Driving
Festival seasons often see a rise in drunk driving. To combat this, traffic police have mobilized five groups (A, B, C, D, and E) with a total of 69 units for nighttime monitoring. These patrol teams will remain active throughout the night to prevent accidents and reckless driving.
Strict Monitoring of Long-Distance Vehicles
Special focus has been placed on buses traveling over 250 kilometers, where having two drivers has been made compulsory. Using the Traffic Communication App, authorities will also check for overloading, excess fare collection, and safety violations.
Strong Police Presence in Key Areas
Joint teams of traffic police and civil police have been deployed at bus parks, entry points, supermarkets, and shopping malls.
“We are on the ground with high morale to assure citizens of their safety,” SP Subedi said.
Technology in Road Safety
Advanced tools are being used during vehicle checks to identify drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This tech-driven approach is expected to improve road discipline and reduce accidents.
High Morale Despite Gen-Z Protests
SP Subedi clarified that, despite some offices being damaged during the recent Gen-Z protests, police services have remained unaffected.
“No officer has lost morale. We have all the necessary uniforms and equipment, and we are serving with full commitment,” he affirmed.
Appeal to Citizens
SP Subedi urged the public to report antisocial or unsafe driving activities by calling 100 or 103. He also advised long-distance travelers to check road conditions before starting their journey.
Ensuring Safety During Dashain
With help desks, night patrols, tech monitoring, and a strong ground presence, the traffic police plan is expected to ensure safe travel and security during Dashain.
