This campaign which is steadily taking its place has been the conceptual work of Chiranjibi Adhikari, President at npCert (Information Security Response Team of Nepal) with significant support from Academics Dean Dr. Sandeep Kautish of Lord Buddha Education Foundation showing a drive to help spread awareness on this issue.

Data security is a very delicate issue and the threats in cyberspace are real. Focusing on this reality Mr. Shreedep Rayamajihi started the session with some data on cybersecurity in the context of both Nepal as well as other countries where internet access has become one of the main-streams. Similarly, he shared views on true incidents retrieved from Nepal Police, Crime Branch.

Another Mr. Milan Raj Nepali, IT Head of Insurance Board of Nepal and Treasurer at Center For Cyber Security Research and Innovation, during this he urged the present audience to take this cyber threat seriously and started equipping oneself with necessary methods to stay secure. He gave some useful tips to safeguard ourselves on the Internet and secure our data from cyber-attacks.

BSc. IT Student of LBEF shared his experience of almost being a victim of data. His case was similar to the one initially shared by Mr. Adhikari. It was some sort of lottery scam through the email where he was asked to send money in order to get the money he supposedly won. He also highlighted the need to be extremely careful while using the Internet as we may not know who we may come across. He even mentioned the lack of regulations for cyber-crime in Nepal and asked npCert Team to help the victim to come up with this serious matter which they have faced.

Academics Dean of LBEF Dr. Sandeep Kautish also shared his view on the threats present in the cyber-space. He deemed the knowledge level especially in the youths who are the major users of the internet, as the crucial factor in the occurrence of cybercrime. Data Security is pivotal to digital transformation and changes in the information technology world.

Most of these cases arise due to the low level of awareness so he praised the efforts of npCert as well as the LBEF team for operating such campaigns.

Many youths are getting in trouble while using mails Facebook and other social sites but they are unaware about its precautions because there is no other medium who can teach them, aware of this subject practically. The LBEF team appreciated the presence of a cybersecurity professional’s team and the LBEF itself wants the npCert team to have another round of the event for their other faculty of students.
