DC Summit Nepal Concludes, Turning Vision Into Reality

The first ever Data Summit organized in Nepal has ended on a high note. Experts from the field of data center solutions from various world-renowned companies presented their reports on the introduction, necessity, latest technologies, application in business, and security of data center.

While inaugurating the ceremony, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Baskota pointed out that Nepal Government is well focused on data security issues. He said that with the growing usage of technology in all fields, the collection, refinement, storage, and security of data is a critical issue in the current scenario. He said, “ Nepal government has put forward the idea of Digital Nepal. We hope to co-operate with private sectors(National or International) to quickly establish Nepal as a developed and technologically advanced nation.”

He mentioned the need for increasing the capacity of the data center at Singhadurbar and informed about the Disaster Recovery Center at Hetauda, which was established by the government. He also said that the government is preparing to build two more data centers at Itahari and Nepalgunj within one year.

“Every sector requires a data center, so the government is preparing for the legal management of them. We’ve taken the legal step due to the growing attacks on data, security, nationality, and, personal confidentiality. The right approach opens doors for its business usages, and legal action is seen necessary so that the security management of such a sensitive sector is assured”, Baskota said.

He said the government is serious about dealing with the challenges arising from its management rather than just establishing the infrastructures. He added that they’re planning to develop an emergency response team as well. He also informed that in the 15th 5-year planning, matters related to information technology had been widely included and furthermore the subject of a data center has been their top management priority.

The summit was attended by service providers, customers related to the data center industry along with professors from various universities, researchers and, entrepreneurs from IT industries. The data center companies had managed stalls to provide information about their products and services during the DC summit.

During the summit, Nutanix’s Regional Sales Director, Ganesh Iyer, Delta Electronics India’s Business Head, Deepak Singh Thakur, Huawei Nepal Technology’s Mr. Gong, Kaspersky’s Sudeep Basnet, EPI India’s Siddharth Jain, Rosenberger’s Kutub Uddin Durlove, Genese Software Solution’s Sachin Udas, CommScope’s Amit Chakraborty, Netzoom Technologies Inc.’s Priyank Verma presented research papers and informed about the data center products and solutions. They discussed the topics about data center’s global standards, guidelines, and, best practices.

One of the organizers, Nepal Data Center Society’s (NDCS) President Star Shrestha mentioned that the demand of data center products and solutions is in a growing trend and the vast opportunities and possibilities of this industry were discussed in the summit and said that they’d try to continue organizing these kinds of events. He said that they hope DC Summit helps Nepali data center industry to become acceptable under the global standards.

Another organizer, npCert’s president Chiranjibi Adhikari said that since the law requiring Nepal’s data to stay in Nepal is coming into effect soon,  the primary aim of this summit was to address the global practices, possibilities, and challenges in Nepal’s data center industry.

During the DC Summit Nepal, 2019, various national and international OEM partners and service providers took part in the event along with their data center solution and products that we’re on display targeting different hospitalities, banking, and financial organizations, governmental organizations, corporate sectors, NGOs and INGOs. The Summit is Jointly Organized by Nepal Data Center Society and Information Security Response Team Nepal in association with Rainbow Technologies Private Limited and One Cover Private Limited.
