A significant digital literacy program was recently held in Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, Lumbini Province, aimed at empowering citizens with essential digital skills.

Digital Literacy Program Empowers Citizens

The program focused on the effective use of the internet, safe social media practices, online security, password management, artificial intelligence (AI), and awareness of cybercrime.

The event, organized by the CAN Federation’s Women in ICT Committee and Lions Club of Butwal Sayapatri, was supported by the Ncell Foundation. The initiative saw a notable participation of women who were trained in the effective use of digital platforms such as email, messaging, and video calls.

Training Focus: Topics included internet usage, social media safety, password management, AI, cybercrime awareness, and more.

Women’s Empowerment: A strong focus was placed on empowering women through technology, increasing job opportunities, and business expansion.

The event was divided into three phases. The inauguration was led by CAN Federation President Ranjeet Kumar Poddar.

Women in ICT Committee member and Lions Club of Butwal Sayapatri President Kamala Basnet Kunwar expressed that the program aimed to make citizens proficient in modern technology. Special emphasis was placed on teaching women how to effectively use digital tools, ensuring internet access, and enhancing basic IT knowledge.

Expert Presentations:

IT expert Padam Raj Pant discussed the correct use of digital devices and the significance of IT.

Ncell representative Yasmin Bhattarai provided detailed insights into cyber security and online privacy.

Simoli Desai, Head of Department at Sunway College, presented the role of AI in daily life, industry, and education.

The event concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Sanjeev Bhandari, Principal of Nepathya College, featuring experts from education, industry, and technology.

The event was a resounding success, with over 125 participants, including local leaders, cooperative representatives, and other stakeholders.

The program’s aim to reduce the digital divide and promote inclusive development was well-received, further fostering digital literacy in Lumbini Province.
