EKLO-I: The Groundbreaking Sci-Fi Trilogy Putting Nepalese Cinema on the Global Map
8th January 2026, Kathmandu
The year 2026 has officially marked the dawn of a new cinematic era in Nepal. With the release of EKLO-I, directed by the visionary Pradip Shahi, the Nepalese film industry has finally ventured into the ambitious world of large-scale science fiction.
EKLO-I Groundbreaking Sci-Fi Trilogy
This film is more than just a release; it is a historic milestone that bridges the gap between local storytelling and global cinematic standards.
A Post-Apocalyptic Nepal in 2090
Set six decades after a catastrophic virus forced humanity to flee Earth in 2030, EKLO-I takes us to the year 2090. The Himalayan peaks of Nepal serve as one of the last outposts for human survival.
The story follows two astronauts, Zack (Jamie Bacon) and Ariel (Kabita Nepali), who crash-land in the rugged Himalayan terrain on a desperate reconnaissance mission. What they find is a haunting world of hidden cave cities, mysterious guardians, and a brutal kingdom where the remnants of humanity struggle against zombie-like beings.
A Powerhouse Cast and New Talent
The film’s success is anchored by a stellar cast that blends veteran experience with fresh action-packed energy:
Vijay Lama (Bhishma): Provides a restrained and powerful emotional core to the desolate world.
Kabita Nepali (Ariel): A national Wushu champion who performed all her own stunts, bringing a new level of physical intensity to Nepalese action roles.
Pradip Khadka (Kalki): While appearing in a key role in this first installment, his character “Kalki” is set to lead the narrative in the upcoming sequel.
Sunil Thapa (King Yama) & Benisha Hamal (Mara): Add significant weight to the dystopian power dynamics.
Historic Milestone: Nepal at Cannes 2025
Before its nationwide theatrical release, EKLO-I made history in 2025 as the first Nepalese film to have an official presence at the Cannes Film Festival.
Global Representation: Managed by Sai Production Nepal, the film featured a dedicated booth at the Marché du Film.
Red Carpet Moment: Director Pradip Shahi and superstar Pradip Khadka represented the nation on the Cannes Red Carpet, signaling to the world that Nepal is ready for international distribution and collaboration.
Technical Excellence and World-Building
Unlike traditional melodramas, EKLO-I focuses heavily on “World-Building.” Shot in extreme high-altitude terrains, the film utilizes international-standard post-production and a blend of practical and digital effects. It creates a unique “Himalayan Sci-Fi” aesthetic that incorporates ancient Hindu prophecies into a futuristic narrative.
