Everest Bank has expanded its reach by opening a new branch in Saipal, Bajhang, making it the first bank to establish a presence in the area. With this new branch, Everest Bank becomes the first ‘Category C’ commercial bank to serve all 753 local levels in Nepal.

Governor Inaugurates Branch After Several Months
Although the branch in Saipal began operations on the 27th of September, the official inauguration took place four and a half months later. Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari traveled to Saipal to cut the ribbon, accompanied by Everest Bank Chairman Bal Gopal Baidya, CEO Sudesh Khaling, and other key officials.
Symbolic Inauguration for Remote Municipality
Saipal, a rural municipality in Bajhang, is the last local level to receive access to a commercial bank. The opening ceremony drew attention because it marked the completion of a nationwide goal to bring banking services to every municipality. Governor Adhikari’s visit by helicopter highlighted his commitment to inaugurating branches, even after their operations have already begun.
A Goal Achieved After Seven Years
In 2074, the Nepal government set a goal to extend commercial banking services to all municipalities across the country. After seven years, Everest Bank’s new branch in Saipal marks the fulfillment of that goal. Despite being operational for months, the delayed inauguration adds a personal touch to the Governor’s last term in office.
