The Federation of International Nepali Youth Entrepreneurs (FINYE) officially launched its Gandaki Province chapter on Saturday, establishing a 19-member executive committee aimed at fostering collaboration and investment between Nepali youth entrepreneurs both domestically and abroad.
FINYE Gandaki Chapter Launched
The new chapter, “Connecting Change makers, Cultivating Progress: FINYE Gandaki Leads Ahead,” will be led by renowned entrepreneur Jitu Gurung, with Engineer Chiranjibi Gautam appointed as General Secretary.
The inaugural gathering in Pokhara saw the participation of key figures, including Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal, both of whom underscored the critical role of youth in Nepal’s economic transformation.
Leadership and Vision for FINYE Gandaki
Jitu Gurung, operator of Barpipal Resort in Pokhara, will serve as President of FINYE Gandaki. The executive committee also includes Hari Bhujel as Senior Vice President, Shanti Shrestha Udas and Sunil Nyaupane as Vice Presidents, Prasunna Bhandari and Rajkumar Sunar as Secretaries, Poshraj Paudel as Treasurer, Rudra Regmi as Joint Treasurer, and Krishna Prasad Acharya as Spokesperson.
The committee members are Asmita Lamichhane, Bhupendra Kumar Lama, Ramesh Prasad Bhurtel, Hari Lamichhane, Gopal Krishna Sangraula, Dharmaraj Panthi, Thaneshwor Baral, Santosh Pradhan, and Surendra Kunwar.
Call for Investment and Innovation
Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, who inaugurated the event, urged Nepalese youth living abroad to invest their labor, skills, and capital back into Nepal. He expressed the provincial government’s readiness to amend laws to facilitate investment and innovation, challenging the perception that “nothing can happen in Nepal.”
“You live in developed nations that were not built in a day. Nepal, too, can transform, but we must overcome certain political and traditional barriers,” CM Pandey stated. He also requested support for developing a ride-sharing app in Gandaki, emphasizing the desire to utilize applications developed by Nepalese themselves.
Overcoming Negative Narratives Through Action
FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal echoed the Chief Minister’s sentiments, highlighting the need to counter negative narratives about Nepal through concrete action and success stories. He emphasized that inspiring innovation and providing facilities comparable to those abroad can accelerate Nepal’s progress, drawing from his own experiences of learning from failures.
Rajeshwar Gyawali, Director General of the Department of Industry, noted that over NPR 6 billion has already been invested in more than 6,000 projects from abroad, encouraging further investment in startups. He indicated that the government is planning new initiatives to boost entrepreneurship.
Global Network and Future Expansion
Shamim Anwar, Vice President of FINE, shared his journey of overcoming failures, emphasizing perseverance as key to success. He stated that FINYE will focus on fostering business collaboration, encouraging entrepreneurs, and facilitating knowledge transfer. Anwar also revealed plans for FINYE to expand its presence across all provinces in Nepal after Bagmati Province, while simultaneously strengthening its international network.
Ram Kumar Thapaliya, advisor to FINE Bagmati, reiterated the organization’s commitment to promoting knowledge-sharing and transforming the narrative surrounding opportunities in Nepal. FINE Central President Swatantrapratap Shah highlighted the federation’s rapid growth and its role as a bridge between Nepalese youth entrepreneurs globally and locally.
To brand Nepalese products internationally and support marketing and exhibitions, FINYE aims to connect young entrepreneurs worldwide with those in Nepal. The establishment of FINYE Gandaki marks a significant step following its provincial expansion in Bagmati.
