25th March 2026, Kathmandu
The landscape of the upcoming FNCCI Election 2026 has gained significant momentum as Sagar Dhakal, the President of the Stock Broker Association of Nepal (SBAN), officially announced his candidacy for the Central Member position under the Commodity Category.
FNCCI Election Candidate Sagar Dhakal
Dhakal’s bid for a seat in the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) represents a strategic effort to integrate the rapidly growing capital market into the core of Nepal’s industrial and economic policy.
Unanimous Mandate from the Stock Broker Association
The decision to field Dhakal as a consensus candidate was finalized during a recent executive committee meeting of the association. Citing his proactive leadership and technical expertise, the committee has pledged to mobilize its network to ensure a victory for FNCCI Election 2026 candidate Sagar Dhakal. The move signals a unified front from stock brokers to have a stronger voice in the nation’s apex business body.
Strengthening the Backbone of the Nepalese Economy
Central to Dhakal’s campaign is the recognition of the Nepalese capital market as a vital economic pillar. With over 7.2 million investors now active in the market and a market capitalization approaching Rs 5 trillion, Dhakal argues that the sector requires high-level representation to navigate upcoming regulatory and policy shifts.
“The capital market is the mirror of our national economy,” Dhakal stated. “My goal in the FNCCI Central Committee is to ensure that the interests of millions of small and large-scale investors are protected and that the market is developed as a primary engine for wealth creation in Nepal.”
A Diverse Professional Background
Dhakal is not only a leader in the financial sector but also a seasoned professional with extensive experience in several key industries:
Hydropower & Engineering: An Oxford-educated engineer with a background in major hydro-mechanical projects.
Tourism & Hospitality: Active involvement in hotel and tourism ventures.
Agriculture: Experience in promoting commercial agricultural initiatives.
This multi-disciplinary expertise allows him to understand the interconnected challenges of Nepalese entrepreneurs, from infrastructure bottlenecks to digital transformation needs.
Advocating for Policy Reforms with the New Government
Following the recent Gen-Z movement and the transition toward a new government with a two-thirds majority, Dhakal believes the private sector is at a crossroads. He has emphasized that his role at FNCCI will involve intense policy lobbying to ensure the government addresses the long-standing demands of the business community.
“The government can no longer afford to delay economic reforms,” Dhakal added. “We need a leadership in FNCCI that can speak the language of innovation and accountability to bridge the gap between the private sector and policymakers.”
