FNCCI Drives Nepal-China Trade Cooperation To Boost Economic Growth And Investment

Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), met with Wang Xi, Minister of the United Front Work Department of Guangdong Provincial Committee of China.

The meeting took place on Friday at the FNCCI Secretariat in Teku, where Minister Wang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, held discussions with President Dhakal. The two sides discussed various aspects of economic and diplomatic relations, trade, investment, and potential areas of collaboration between Nepal and China.
On the occasion, President Dhakal highlighted the long-standing and trustworthy relationship between Nepal and China, and called for enhanced cooperation in the fields of technology and innovation. He noted that China’s support in tourism, infrastructure, and energy has significantly contributed to Nepal’s development.
President Dhakal emphasized the potential for partnership between Nepal and Guangdong in trade and investment. He stated, “The possibilities for trade and investment with Guangdong, its experience in science and technology, and the active role it is playing in building both international and domestic partnerships can open new doors for cooperation between Nepal and Guangdong.”
President Dhakal also briefed Minister Wang about FNCCI’s efforts to create a business-friendly environment in Nepal. He mentioned that, under FNCCI’s initiative, the government has recently amended and revised over 30 laws. Stressing the need for a bilateral investment agreement between Nepal and China, Dhakal said, “Such an agreement will strengthen the legal and institutional framework and encourage Chinese investors to invest in Nepal.”
Highlighting Nepal’s investment potential in sectors such as energy, construction, information technology, tourism, and agro-processing, President Dhakal urged the Guangdong government to help connect potential investors and institutions from these sectors. He added that FNCCI is ready to collaborate in joint ventures, business visits, and knowledge exchange programs.
Speaking at the occasion, Wang Xi, Minister of the United Front Work Department and member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, said that Nepal and China share long-standing economic, social, and cultural ties. He assured that China remains positive and supportive of Nepal’s economic development.
He expressed China’s readiness to share its successful experiences in technology and innovation to support Nepal’s development. “China has made significant progress in the areas of technology and innovation. Nepal can also achieve a lot through cooperation in these areas. We are ready for that collaboration,” he said. Minister Wang also mentioned that China is interested in cooperating with Nepal in food processing, agriculture, and tourism and pledged to take initiative to promote economic cooperation between Nepal and Guangdong.
