This request, made by a high-level delegation led by FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal, was presented to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday.

The private sector’s plea comes amid recent protests that have resulted in heavy financial losses for businesses across the country.

President Dhakal emphasized that the government must immediately take concrete steps to ensure peace and security. He conveyed the widespread concern among entrepreneurs, who feel insecure in the current climate. The private sector is a major contributor to the nation’s economy, making this a critical issue.

Impact of Recent Protests

The FNCCI delegation highlighted the severe impact of recent protests on businesses. FNCCI Vice Presidents Hem Raj Dhakal and Jyotsna Shrestha, along with Treasurer Bharat Raj Acharya, explained that hundreds of businesses were affected by attacks, vandalism, and arson on private property. These incidents have caused substantial financial losses and have created a climate of fear.

The delegation also stressed the importance of holding those responsible accountable. They urged Minister Aryal to take immediate action against the culprits to prevent a culture of impunity. Such attacks on private property are a direct threat to the economic stability of Nepal.

A Call for Collaboration and Dignity

President Dhakal pointed out the private sector’s willingness to assist in the reconstruction of police infrastructure. He requested the Home Minister to inform Chief District Officers about the possibility of collaboration through business associations.

This proposed partnership would show a united effort to strengthen security measures. Dhakal also emphasized that the government should send a positive message to the private sector. By ensuring a dignified working environment, the government can boost morale.

The private sector contributes 81% to Nepal’s economy and provides 86% of employment. Its ability to function effectively is directly tied to the nation’s prosperity.

Government’s Response

In response to the delegation’s concerns, Home Minister Aryal acknowledged the seriousness of the matter. He assured the FNCCI that the government is sensitive to the need for ensuring peace and security for both citizens and businesses.

The minister’s statement offers a glimmer of hope that the government will address these issues with the urgency they require.

The discussion between the FNCCI and the Home Minister marks a crucial step toward finding a lasting solution to the challenges facing businesses.

It is a clear indication that dialogue and collaboration between the government and the private sector are essential for national development. By addressing these security concerns, the government can help foster an environment of growth and confidence.
