What is Independent and open source software (FOSS)? Why to use it ?

Electrical technology has become un-parted part of our life. For development software and other many, these types of technology have been fundamental. But, in the electrical world, our rights have been in verse of vulnerability. We should be able to protect our rights ourselves. Free Software means free and open source software- Foss (Free and Open Source Software- FOSS) is that type of software, which respects its users’ independence and save their rights.

Free and open source software (FOSS), is that type of software, which lets its users to do any kind of task, read the source of software, according to our work and need, that software can be changed and modified and lets us distribute that software’s changed and unchanged features with full permission. “Unfettered software” named word can be used instead of “free software”. This type of software is developed in traditional way “single- company system” different than “distributed software development system” is in rapid way.

FOSS Nepal community is a big network of various organizations, colleges, universities’ volunteers. This community tells you about free software, the electrical world, and usages. FOSS has a partnership with many existing companies and has also organized many programs and campaigns.

FOSS research and training center is Nepal’s only and South Asia’s one of the training center lies in that category. With a partnership with “Help Nepal Network” and Nobel Prize Library, they have opened many e-libraries in Nepal’s various schools in many places with the use of “Linux FOSS help and Service Center

In Nepal, FOSS software is essential, and this was established understanding its use and significance. The volunteer’s and technologists that joined the local campaign of FOSS provides various FOSS software, Linux distribution and service, and solution. Here, this service is provided at a minimum price. Here, every Friday free class is given about Linux. Likewise, every Saturday Wikipedia related wiki-school is conducted. More than this, in many colleges there is group divided for FOSS. Sometimes before, Chitwan’s one group developed Chitawnix (Linux related operating system). Software Independence Day, Document Freedom Day types of programs were held yearly.
