From 1 October 2016, ‘International Day of Older Persons’, Bihani Social Venture will dedicate the first week to this year’s theme ‘Take A Stand Against Ageism’ by conducting interaction session, free health camps including; Eye Checkup, General Check-up, Orthopaedic Consultation, Physiotherapy and Tai Chi Exercises in the following community locations, along with creating an environment of discussions related to issues of ageing/ elders:
1 Oct: Health and Tai Chi Activities by Young Dragon Team (National Tai Chi & Wushu Players Time 1 PM -3 PM Venue: Matatirtha (Matatirtha Old Age Home)
- 2 Oct: Health Check Up by the team from Norvic Hospital, Time: noon – 3:30 PM Venue: Kupondole Heights (Bihani Social Venture)
- 3 Oct: Presentation by Ms. Roberta Mandoki,( Researcher, Heidelberg University) on ‘Elderscapes: Ageing in Urban South Asia’ and Interaction Session on the theme of Ageism, Time: 12:30 Pm – 2 PM Venue: Bihani Social Venture
- 4 Oct: Health Check Up with the team from KRMEF and Orthopedician from Grande Hospital, Time: 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM Venue: Chalnakhel (Kevin Rohan Memorial Eco Foundation)
- 6 Oct: Session and Checkup with a team from Tilganga Hospital Time: 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM Venue: Kupondole Heights (Bihani Social Venture)
The free health camps are aimed at bringing health experts in various communities in and outside Kathmandu to promote a better understanding of specific health disorder, disease & illness prevention and management. The interaction session is aimed at discussing issues of ageism and solutions.
About ‘International Day of Elders’:
On 14 December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly (by resolution 45/106) designated 1 October the International Day of Older Persons. In 2002, the Second World Assembly on Ageing adopted the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, to respond to the opportunities and challenges of population aging in the 21st century and to promote the development of a society for all ages.
