Global Cyber Security Summit 2018 In Nepal

NPCERT will be hosting a Global Cyber Security Summit (GCSS) 2018 event on July 27 to 28, 2018 with the theme “Building Global Alliance for Cyber Resilience.” The primary objective of this summit is to provide a creative and productive platform for professionals in the field of Cybersecurity. The summit will empower new generation and will bring together different related stakeholders in the world, with an eye to reflect nitty-gritty of how to transfer, diffuse and combat Cyber threats with their mitigation plans ensuring Cyberlaw putting in place.

There is no gainsaying that the security status of cyberworld in Nepal is very critical. Websites of various private and public sites of the different organization are being hacked, the large-scale financial attacks, social media related cyber crimes like fake profile marketing and cyber heist are all consequences of a weak security posture that are publicly visible. But, these are only a small part of the overall security statistics. Many poor configurations that result in these visible impacts go unnoticed until it leads to the worst outcome.

Primary target audiences of the summit are IT professionals, security experts, government employees, enterprise people in business, students from different sectors, banking sector personnel and other members interested in the topic. Participants will get ample time to share experiences and challenges about Cybersecurity in their respective countries, along with two days of intense engagement on technology and security-related issues. The summit is an initiative to make people aware of information security to establish a strong security posture in Nepal.

The summit will be structured to include a day of presentations, panel discussions, and keynote lectures followed by workshops. Participants can interact with national and international business partners, employers, clients, and customers.

NPCERT invites researchers from around the world to submit abstracts for presentation at our GCSS 2018 on the topics here. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed and Acceptance will be based on content, available space, and overall program balance. Oral and poster presentations will take place on July 27 and 28, 2018.

NPCERT is a team of Information Security experts formed to address the urgent need for the protection of national information and growing cybersecurity threat in Nepal. The attack on information infrastructures are increasing in frequency and scale so, to address all these issues, NPCERT was established.

Background

It is no secret that the security status of cyberworld in Nepal is very critical. Frequently, websites of various public/government sector and private sector are under attack, with some successful hacking. Assaults on large-scale financial institutions, cyber crimes related to Social Media, such as fake profile marketing, and cyber heist, are some of the visible consequences of weak security posture to name a few. But, there is only a small portion of the overall security statistics. Many poor configurations that result in these visible impacts go unnoticed until it leads to the worst outcome.

Some of the notable security breach incidents Nepal has faced in recent past include Department of Passport hacked by Turkish hackers, NIC Asia Bank heist of almost 4.4 million dollars, 58 Nepal government websites were reportedly hacked by a group called ‘Paradox Cyberghost, etc. With the growth in the IT applications and startups, the internet consumption in Nepal had also increased by 50% according to the Internet service providers (ISPs).

Nepal needs to focus on the reform of the outdated Cyber Law Act (Electronic Transaction Act) of 2006/2007 and related awareness. This will encourage ordinary people and IT professionals to be up-to-date with many security issues like spamming, phishing, and ransomware. The number of institutions and human resource of Cybersecurity must be increased to fight against cyber crimes and for the proper implementation and awareness about Cybersecurity. This summit is an initiative to make people aware of computer security to establish a healthy security posture in Nepal.

NPCERT is hosting this summit for the first time in Nepal with the primary objective of building Global Alliance for Security Resilience to empower participants and organizations with the latest quality information on techniques, strategies, and solutions of ensuring a comprehensive Cybersecurity infrastructure. GCSS 2018 will highlight the gap emerged between technology and business enhancements, and therefore, provide national and international organizations a pla?orm to collaborate.

Keynote Speakers, Panelists, International delegates and Presenters of GCSS 2018 will be of diverse background. Call for Abstract will be released to select the papers from the cybersecurity industry. Besides that, there will be representative of government agencies, people from corporate and banking sectors, and IT professionals.

Audiences

GCSS 2018 will expect to receive a minimum of 150 national and international delegates and guests from all over the world. To make the summit a hub for organizations to discuss and understand the cybersecurity challenges, the compositions of the audiences will be diverse. Most of them will be the representative of Global Cyber Security Responses Team, Audit Managers, Digital and Innovation Leads, Directors of Risk and Audit, Directors of Security, IT Manager, Heads of Corporate Security, Information Security Managers, Security Advisors, Security Engineers, and Students.
