Global IME Bank Limited has completed its first-ever AI/ML Hackathon. The event aimed to explore Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in banking. It brought together students, developers, startups, and researchers from across Nepal.

High-Level Participation
The final event took place in Kathmandu. Nepal Rastra Bank’s Deputy Governor, Mr. Bam Bahadur Mishra, attended as the chief guest. The bank’s CEO, Surendra Raj Regmi, Deputy CEO, senior executives, and institutional representatives were also present.
Deputy Governor Mishra praised the bank’s initiative. He said such programs offer growth opportunities to youth and students. He added that modern technology helps extend banking services and improve efficiency.
Teams from Across Nepal
The hackathon received strong nationwide interest. From many applicants, 21 teams were shortlisted. These teams came from Kathmandu, Mahendranagar, Pokhara, Birgunj, Kavre, and Dharan. The event had two phases: an initial coding round and a final onsite competition.
Participants focused on real banking challenges. They worked on building AI and ML-based solutions. Their ideas covered fraud detection, user experience, automation, and smart banking tools.
Winning Teams and Prizes
Team Calculus won the first prize of NPR 100,000. Team WDK placed second and received NPR 75,000. The third prize of NPR 50,000 went to Larke Pass. Team Janakpur and Fraudex came fourth and fifth, receiving NPR 15,000 each.
The bank also recognized Digivits for the best presentation. They received a special prize of NPR 15,000.
Deputy Governor Mishra handed over the awards to the winners. He encouraged continued innovation and collaboration with the banking sector.
Bank’s Commitment to Innovation
Speaking at the event, CEO Regmi said the hackathon was part of the bank’s digital banking strategy. It helps identify challenges and develop creative solutions. He announced that the winning teams may get a chance to work with the bank in the future.

In addition to domestic services, the bank also handles remittance inflows from countries like the US, UK, Australia, Korea, Japan, and Gulf nations.
