Global Money Week 2025 Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank Leads Financial Literacy Rally

The first day of Global Money Week 2025 began today with a financial literacy rally organized by Nepal Rastra Bank, the Nepal Insurance Authority, and the Securities Board of Nepal.

The event was held in Kathmandu, marking the start of a global campaign to promote financial education among children and youth.
This year’s theme for Global Money Week is “Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow.” The 13th edition of the week-long initiative started in Nepal today. The event, coordinated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), runs from March 17 to 23 each year to increase awareness about financial literacy.
Sushil Dev Suvedi, Executive Director of the Nepal Insurance Authority, spoke at the event. He highlighted the importance of spreading financial literacy in rural areas. According to him, it is crucial to raise awareness about money management, saving, and wise use of financial resources. He added that the Insurance Authority is ready to collaborate with various organizations to spread this message to more people.
In addition, Suvedi shared that the Nepal Insurance Authority would organize financial literacy programs in schools through both its central and regional offices. He also mentioned that the authority plans to run these programs via digital platforms to reach a wider audience.
During the event, Tulsi Prasad Ghimire, Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank, and Dr. Navaraj Adhikari, Executive Director of the Securities Board of Nepal, also spoke. They stressed the importance of educating children and youth about the value of money, saving, investing wisely, and protecting against fraud. According to them, introducing these topics early in life is crucial for developing good financial habits.
Moreover, the speakers emphasized the need for cooperation among different organizations to improve financial literacy across all sectors of society. They agreed that such efforts are necessary to build a financially informed community.
The event saw participation from officials and staff from the Nepal Rastra Bank, Nepal Insurance Authority, Securities Board of Nepal, Nepal Stock Exchange, and the Nepal Stock Brokers Association. Representatives from various financial institutions also joined, reinforcing the collective effort to promote financial literacy.
Global Money Week 2025 will continue with more programs throughout the week. These initiatives aim to help individuals make informed decisions about managing their finances. With such efforts, the goal is to ensure that people, especially youth, are better equipped to handle their financial futures and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
