GoN Launches ‘Shram Sansar App’ to Support, Register and Protect Nepalese Migrant Workers Abroad
Government of Nepal Launches ‘Shram Sansar App’ to Register Nepali Migrant Workers Abroad
In a strategic move to protect and support Nepali citizens working overseas, the Government of Nepal has officially launched the Shram Sansar App, a digital platform designed to collect and manage information about Nepali migrant workers across the globe.
GoN Shram Sansar App
Jointly initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, the app aims to bring better visibility, safety, and support services to the global Nepali diaspora.
What is the Shram Sansar App?
The Shram Sansar App is a centralized digital system built to register Nepali citizens living or working abroad, particularly in labor destination countries. The app collects personal details such as location, employment status, and living conditions, enabling the government to maintain a real-time database of Nepali migrant workers worldwide.
This initiative marks a major step in digitizing foreign employment governance, enhancing transparency, and ensuring timely consular support.
Key Features and Benefits
Global Registration of Nepali Diaspora
Enables Nepalis abroad to register their details, helping the government understand where, how, and how many Nepalis are working internationally.
Faster Consular and Rescue Services
Facilitates emergency response, rescue operations, and welfare services for Nepalis in distress abroad.
Data-Driven Policy Making
Helps both ministries track migrant trends and frame better foreign employment policies.
Legal Recognition of Undocumented Workers
Introduces Regularization of Work Permits through Nepali embassies for individuals working abroad without prior labor approval from Nepal.
Updated by Embassies
Nepali embassies in host countries will manage and update the app regularly for accuracy and accountability.
Official Launch and Ministerial Remarks
The Shram Sansar App was officially launched on Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Foreign Minister Hon. Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba and Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Hon. Sharatsingh Bhandari.
Minister Rana highlighted that many Nepali workers have faced fraud and exploitation due to a lack of official registration and access to timely information. She noted that the app will make it easier to provide consular services and extend help based on verified data.
She also clarified that the new “Regularization Work Permit” provision is not meant to promote illegal migration but to safeguard undocumented Nepalis already working abroad.
Minister Bhandari added that this system will be particularly beneficial for those working without labor permits, undocumented workers, and those deprived of basic rights. The app ensures that every Nepali abroad is within the government’s radar for protection and support.
How Nepalis Abroad Can Register?
Nepalis residing in foreign countries must self-register using the Shram Sansar App, while embassies will oversee the validation and updating of their records.
A New Era for Nepali Migrant Workers
The Shram Sansar App is expected to become a game-changer for Nepal’s foreign employment sector. With real-time access to diaspora data, the government can better assist workers in need, develop safer migration pathways, and provide long-overdue legal recognition to undocumented workers.
