Google And Facebook Troubles Traditional Media

Expert says, tech giant like Google and Facebook are troubling traditional media because they are using the materials of conventional media in free of cost, plus they are advertising those materials and generating revenue from them.

The media who are actively engaged in war and investigative reporting are facing big sort of problem because of this unethical behavior of tech giants, added the experts. Without the permission of concerned authority tech giants are found of using all those materials collected from war and investigations.

Facebook’s North American ad revenue has overtaken the money traditional media companies like CBS, Disney and Comcast make with ads in the U.S. for the first time this year. This shows that the internet things are putting traditional media in difficulty as advertisers are increasingly shifting their budgets from TV networks to digital.

Facebook generated $9.1 billion in ad dollars in North America during the first nine months of this year, according to SEC filings analyzed for the report. Comcast’s North America ad revenue for the same time frame was $7.6 billion; Disney followed closely with $6.7 billion, and CBS trailed with $5.4 billion. A year ago, Facebook was still behind Comcast, with both companies generating ad revenue of $5.5 billion and $6.6 billion respectively during the first three quarters of 2015 reports Variety.

Seeing the enormous drop of TV ads, promoters are diverting more money to tech giants like Google and Facebook, which have increasingly focused on expanding their video — and video ad — business.

UK based news portal Independent writes “Traditional” media, of course, has skin in the game. Facebook and Google are cannibalizing others’ editorial content, making money from it at no risk to themselves, and doing little to help internet users distinguish between real news and the fake variety. All of that hits “old” media in the pocket
