Emergency Telecommunication Cluster (ETC)
The primary focus of the meeting was to ensure the rapid restoration of telephone and internet services in earthquake-affected areas. To achieve this, service providers have been requested to take immediate action, appointing a dedicated contact person to facilitate the process and maintain constant communication with the ETC.
Furthermore, the Nepal Telecommunication Authority will oversee the coordination, monitoring, and resource mobilization required for the operation of the telecommunication cluster. This comprehensive approach aims to minimize communication disruptions and enhance the effectiveness of relief efforts.
Narendra KC, a communication expert from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, stressed the importance of sharing truthful, reliable, and official news from the affected areas. The meeting highlighted the need for all media outlets and social network users to play their part in disseminating accurate information, thereby preventing the spread of false or misleading reports.
Additionally, the meeting emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous communication with both central and district emergency centers, ensuring a seamless flow of information and resources. Nepal Telecom officials also provided a critical update, announcing that basic telecommunication services are currently being offered for free in the earthquake-affected regions.
With the ETC now active, the government is taking proactive steps to address the immediate communication needs of the affected areas, ensuring that vital information and assistance can be swiftly delivered during this challenging time.
